QueenOfZoom Posted July 19, 2017 #1 Share Posted July 19, 2017 We did Getaway June 2016, Epic this past January, and Escape in April. We have a CAS certificate to use, prefer to stay away from Western Caribbean. The spouse is very much interested in Dawn out of SJU for Southern Caribbean. Any thoughts on sailing one of the smaller ships after the larger?
Rare BirdTravels Posted July 19, 2017 #2 Share Posted July 19, 2017 There will be less to do on board. But, you should pick your cruises for the itinerary. All of your favorite restaurants will be there. And a new restaurant, Los Lobos. Entertainment is pretty good. And the ship is just of dry dock. Enjoy! Sand and Seas Posted July 19, 2017 #3 Share Posted July 19, 2017 We do love the larger ships, but are making plans to sail on the Dawn again. As mentioned above, don't miss Los Lobos. Excellent food & staff. With the itinerary from San Juan you will be visiting lots of islands where NCL's larger ships usually don't go. Cruising on a smaller ship is a different experience than a large one. The night life is less Las Vegas like, but still very fun. We cruise with CAS too. The Dawn's casino is much smaller than Escape or the 'away' ships, but still fun.
Russ Lomas Posted July 19, 2017 #4 Share Posted July 19, 2017 Come join us on the Dawn for this New Year's cruise. 10 days including 8 ports plus San Juan. You won't find 9 different ports that those bigger ships can even port in. Looking forward to our upcoming cruise on the Dawn, especially since its refurbishment. gymbomb Posted July 19, 2017 #5 Share Posted July 19, 2017 Dawn and Star are our favorite ships! We have also sailed Epic and Breakaway, and we did enjoy some of the big ship activities, but we still love the smaller ones. We like to have relaxing days and don't need all of the frills on every trip. We like the different nightly shows that don't require planning ahead. Still have lots of dining options. Rooms are a little bigger. And they go some places the mega ships can't go. Head into it with realistic expectations and you will have a great trip!! Any thoughts on sailing one of the smaller ships after the larger? Having sailed both Getaway and Epic, could you answer a question: We sailed last Dec on Getaway and loved the Waterfront. We are considering Epic now. I know there is no waterfront, but are there outdoor areas where you can relax, have a drink and watch the water go by? How did you like the two ships in relation to one another.
rtkenmore Posted January 17, 2018 #7 Share Posted January 17, 2018 We're doing Dawn out of San Juan for 10 days in January 2019 (although I saw an article today that now says Epic will be sailing from San Juan during that time frame so not sure if we are going to be moved to Epic now). We've been on Dawn once before and really enjoyed the ship. As others have said, there isn't as much to do but there also isn't as many people to contend with. I highly recommend Los Lobos as well. One of our favorite NCL restaurants now.
