If the envelope containing your S&S card has been tampered with go to Guest Services. Several threads are on this board that should alleviate your worries. Pellaz Posted July 22, 2017 #5 Share Posted July 22, 2017 Even IF the envelope has been tampered with (or removed), your photo is associated with your onboard account and is displayed when someone tries to use your card. Photo mismatch --> call to Security --> "visit" to the brig and/or expulsion from the vessel.
cthrn27 Posted July 22, 2017 #6 Share Posted July 22, 2017 Thank you. THAT makes sense..... so, once you check in (and have your picture taken), it's smooth sailing..... Sorry....pardon my humor
firemanbobswife Posted July 22, 2017 #7 Share Posted July 22, 2017 I think a couple things need to be clarified and corrected. 1. "unless they are part of the VIFP club" is misleading. Everyone can be and is part of the VIFP club. It should read "Diamond or Platinum VIFP tier" in reference to having the cabin ready at embarkation. 2. You do not give your name and cabin number to make purchases before you receive your S&S card, you use your boarding pass. While I suppose you could, that's not the way Carnival explains it. If I'm not confused with HAL - When we checked in at Pt Canaveral they did not take our pictures ... the pics were automatically taken from our passport records. That's correct. The pics were never directly on the cards no matter when/how you receive them. They use your pic from your Passport when they scan it. In the event you don't have one, it didn't scan properly, or you look different, they will retake it.
Domino D Posted July 22, 2017 #10 Share Posted July 22, 2017 2. You do not give your name and cabin number to make purchases before you receive your S&S card, you use your boarding pass. . This is the only thing that makes sense. Unless they are going to ask for some other form of ID. Otherwise the much bigger concern would be over hearing a name and cabin number, then simply using it for purchases. There would have to be some way to verify identity, or Carnival would be liable for any disputed charges.

But it makes sense to use your boarding pass because they scan the barcode. You don't buy things on the ship by giving your name and cabin number, so why wouldn't they use a physical means which in this case is your boarding pass in lieu of the S&S card? Correct, they have your picture in file. If you used an illegit folio number the picture tied to it comes up on display. The system is a substantial enhancement and just plain works. BTHodgeman Posted July 24, 2017 #16 Share Posted July 24, 2017 There also really isn't much that you can use an S&S card for prior to sailing. The shops and casinos are closed, specialty restaurants are closed, etc. More or less the only thing open is the bars. Carnival has probably done the math and finds that it is cheaper to erase some potential fraudulent bar charges than it is to add to the staffing cost at check-in. NJporkroll Posted July 24, 2017 #17 Share Posted July 24, 2017 What if someone gets on before you, opens your envelope, opens the door, reseals the envelope, hides in your cabin, hits you over the head as you enter, mugs you, steels your wallet and shampoo??? Very unsafe, I should know. I have lots of family and friends in the mall security field... Sent from my iPad using Forums

We are just off the Splendor and I can assure you that, IMHO, this is a positive change. Boarding process was seamless. The new card delivery system and staggered check in are improvements to the boarding process. If you are still concerned about your credit card information, you can set up a cash account and then add your credit card later at guest services. Not to throw a wrench into the gears here but when you order a drink from the roving drink servers or whatever they're called, they just take your folio number, not your card. The bartenders that actually makes the drinks and charges your card never sees your face to compare it to what pops up on the screen.

evandbob Posted July 24, 2017 #25 Share Posted July 24, 2017 Years ago I would find my excursion tickets in the mailbox, not in my cabin as they do today. Never a problem. There have been many threads in the last year or so on S&S cards left in the mailboxes, with many expressing their fears, yet I have not read one posting yet where someone claimed their S&S card was stolen from their mailbox. A few years back, we began to notice how other lines adopted new technologies, like swiping S&S cards for muster attendance or having no key slot ***** your cabin door (just holding the card in front of the lock opened it). There are probably a few non Carnival ships that may allow truly keyless entry to a cabin thru your smartphone app. Carnival just seems to be the last to try new technology, even when some of it has been used successfully by its sister corporations.
