Cruisegoer Posted July 31, 2017 Author #51 Share Posted July 31, 2017 So after 3 days and 2 phone calls even confirming the prices online and on the phone the Celebrity website now shows the normal beverage package pricing for the 8/6 sailing on the Equinox. Pretty disturbing that no one at Celebrity had any confidence in what the prices should have been just what was published at the time of questioning. ano Posted July 31, 2017 #52 Share Posted July 31, 2017 Look at it this way. Since many people get free drinks as a "perk" your getting an even BETTER deal when they raise prices. Buy a week of alcohol, and the cruise is almost free. :-)
Rare Cruise Junky Posted July 31, 2017 #53 Share Posted July 31, 2017 Well you are a pretty serious drinker if your bar bill is over $600 for the week and that is what the premium alcohol package now costs. You also have to drink ALOT of soda for an $11+ per day fee or a lot of specialty coffee and soda and water for a $227 premium N/A package. Sent from my iPhone using Forums Isn't that like 2 1/2 cans of soda now? that's not a lot.
MizDemeanor Posted August 1, 2017 #54 Share Posted August 1, 2017 Its very, very, very, hard to drink the value of a package to break even on a purchase. If anyone is thinking of buying a package, buy by the drink instead. The tilt is in your favor in doing so.
riclop Posted August 2, 2017 #55 Share Posted August 2, 2017 You don't have to buy it.

The Premium non-alcohol package comes to $184 so to add top shelf alcohol it's room Fukushima an additional $300. Not bad for a week IMHO Sent from my iPhone using Forums
MizDemeanor Posted August 3, 2017 #57 Share Posted August 3, 2017 At $65 per person per day estimated for Premium, and with an at not more than $13.00 per drink, the math is 5 drinks per day per person. I suggest that is definatly do-able on sea days for some guests, but very hard to accomplish for the larger majority of guests who buy the packages and who are off board on port days. Even for those those who stay on board on port days, its my opinion that they are not heavy drinkers and likely are not package buyers.

Even for those those who stay on board on port days, its my opinion that they are not heavy drinkers and likely are not package buyers. Let's face it. The packages are designed to make $$$ for the cruise line, not to save passengers money. Some people will consume enough beverages (they do not all have to contain alcohol) to come out ahead. But on the average, the cruise line will make money on the packages sold. When you go to the casino, on the average the house comes out ahead. When you purchase a beverage package (and even if a perk, you pay for that perk), you are betting against the house, and overall, the house will come out ahead. drsel Posted August 3, 2017 #60 Share Posted August 3, 2017 What in your estimate is a BARGAIN price for the Celebrity Classic beverage package, that EVERYONE would want to buy?
tartana Posted August 3, 2017 #61 Share Posted August 3, 2017 When I go in to my cruise planner, prices are always in USD - even though I wouldn't mind seeing the Canadian price - anyone know how I can change this to see the difference?
Cruisegoer Posted August 3, 2017 Author #62 Share Posted August 3, 2017 What in your estimate is a BARGAIN price for the Celebrity Classic beverage package, that EVERYONE would want to buy? I would put the pricing in the range of $30-35 per day for Classic, that would make it a hard option to resist for most people I'm sure since a glass of wine at dinner is easily $8-

When you first go to the Celebrity website scroll all the way to the bottom and change the United States to Canada , hopefully this will help
Cruisegoer Posted August 4, 2017 Author #66 Share Posted August 4, 2017 $65? I can do that at dinner - total no brainer I'm interested to see how the bar server/staff ratio's have changed with the proliferation of the drink packages. Once upon a time, long before drink packages existed it seemed you couldn't sit in your lounge chair more than 2 minutes before being approached (approached every 2 minutes) with someone saying "drinks, drinks". In recent years as the AI packages have become more standard I see fewer and fewer bar staff, especially around the pool requesting orders. It has been a few years since I've been on Celebrity but this has certainly been the case on Carnival, Royal Caribbean and HAL.
drsel Posted August 4, 2017 #67 Share Posted August 4, 2017 You also need to pay for both passengers for the entire cruise, so for a 14 day cruise, the actual Celebrity Classic beverage package rate is 55x2x14=$1540. I wonder what is the break even point for Celebrity. Also, this unlimited drinks package is unfair to casual or light drinkers, who normally have only 1-2 drinks at night. While the alcoholics who can guzzle 10+ drinks daily will be exploiting Celebrity

While the alcoholics who can guzzle 10+ drinks daily will be exploiting Celebrity you don't have to buy it for two on Celebrity LOL, please explain why it's unfair? Does someone tie you down and make you take the drink package? If you only have one or two drinks a day, don't buy or opt for the drink package. When you get $150 OBC or Classic beverage package as a free perk for an Ocean view cabin, can the lady opt for $150 and the other for the Classic beverage package? No other Cruise allows this Princess lets one person buy it. I'm told if the staff sees the person sharing, they'll revoke the package with no refund.
