Star princess drydock

I was on the 4/21/17 Hawaii Cruise on the Star and unfortunately it was one of my least favorite cruises ever (68 cruises & counting).

The Star is OLD! Let me repeat the Star is OLD. The worst areas? The fitness center and Casino. The casino was such a sad, lifeless area. It's pretty large space, but for some reason all of the machines are pushed up against the walls. The ship obviously hasn't been touched for years. We had a mini-suite and it was old looking and in disrepair. The Solarium pool area was always cold - they never heated the space. So during the crossing from Vancouver to the Hawaiian Islands my guess the temperatures was in the low to mid 60's Fahrenheit. kids were in the pool but adults had winter down coats on!

The buffet area is annoying. They never improved on the original design of the space, so they use ropes to manage the traffic so you can only enter the main food area from one direction and exit from another.

You compare that ship with Celebrity's Millennium Class ships which were built the same time and you will see Princess really let that ship go.

Don’t go on the Grand!! It’s even older. It is my least favorite ship but in our home port, so I’ll take it!

We enjoyed the Star. Have not sailed her since our Hawaii cruise 3 years ago out of SF.

Well here's some good news is the Star is at sea proceeding to Vancouver as I write this. Hopefully we should start hearing about the changes from cruisers boarding her in Vancouver, in the next several days.;)

We will be boarding tomorrow for the 3 day down to LA and then staying on for the 15 day Hawaii. Not sure if things didn't get completed in drydock, or if they totally overbooked both segments but we have received moveover offers for BOTH in the past two days! I am tempted by the Hawaii moveover but my cruise partner isn't, so we won't be taking it...

Interesting ... definitely eager to hear more, it's bizarre Princess doesn't publish more official insights on what they did/are doing in these drydocks.

They seem to promote major changes such as the Caribbean earlier this year but nothing for maintenance drydocks.

The Sapphire has a 2 week drydock in March but nothing being promoted about it. I was hoping for some of the Caribbean’s changes but it could be just maintenance.

I imagine there are people who jump on the chance to book a cruise right after a dry docking because they are eager to experiences any changes that may have been made. If Princess made known everything that was going to be done, those people might not be so eager to book a post dry docking cruise.

The new in cabin TV's are huge and look to have multiple menus. The lamps have USB ports on them

Thank you for posting the pictures. Do you know if the lamps with the USB ports have been added to all of the cabins? I certainly hope so!
