8/26 Mayweather vs MacGregor

Recommended Posts

If you are in port at the time of the fight the crew may be able to direct you to a bar likely to show it.

In room TVs usually have Sports News channels....ones like Sky Sports News often keep a part screen reporting on live action....not ideal but better than nothing.

I once asked a cruise director about a PPV fight. They would have to pay the PPV amount for everyone on board including the crew.

I very much doubt that would be the case, maybe he thought it was an easy way to justify them not doing it.

The fact it would cost something is enough for Celebrity to not show it, but it would not be anywhere near the cost suggested by the CD.

When I asked about a boxing event in the casino bar the barman asked IT and said the only way they'd show something was if it was on a free channel they could pick up at the time.

I just got a email today from a major warehouse club that there were limited tickets available for this fight thru them.

Out of curiosity I checked the prices. Tickets that were one section from ring side were around $10,000 and those in the cheap seats around $2,500. This is for a fight card for one night.

Makes the price of the Royal or Penthosue suite seem like a bargain.

Wouldn't think that there were so many fight fans able to spend that amount of money.

Don't understand how he gets away without paying taxes and not being charged a penalty.

Happy cruising 🌊🚢🇺🇸🌞

It's not that they would have to pay for each passenger, but they would have to pay for each TV in the "facility" purchasing the PPV. I know, as we tried to get PPV for a few events back when I worked for NCL, and that's what I was told. Especially for fights, the PPV provider does not set the price, the fight promoter does. This is the same for sports bars on land, if they have more than one screen, they pay for each one. Heck, we tried to get the last Pacquio fight on my tanker (22 satellite TV boxes on the ship) and we would have had to pay for all 22, which made it several thousand dollars.

My guess is that the "pay per screen" rule was meant for a bar that actually sells more beer when they show a boxing event. Nobody would go on a cruise for that, which makes it an entirely different case. I'd think CLIA is big enough to negotiate to get out of this lose-lose situation.

Who is not paying taxes?

For Celebrity, even paying for one TV would be enough for them to not show it. If it's not FTA it won't be shown.
