You could use a taxi, Uber/Lyft, or one of the many shuttle/limo services such as Galveston Limo.

We he a cruise out of Galveston in Feb and plan to use a private shuttle/limo service. You might check the Gulf Coast Departures board too, as this topic gets covered there a lot. http://boards.cruisecritic.com/forumdisplay.php?f=414

Galveston Express is one option mentioned by some.

Also, some people rent a car for the week and park it at the port. This way you have a way back too.

I rented a car for a week and parked across the street from the pier. The combined price of car rental and parking was comparable to ground transportation. I then had a car for driving around before and after the cruise.

We used Galveston Express, we can't say we were overly impressed with them. Compared to the Florida shuttles they were late and disorganized. I thought Galveston was a generally tricky port to get to.

I've also found transportation and lodging options at Galveston to be inferior to any Florida port we've experienced.

Depends on the cost of the Uber ride. Do you have an estimate?

not yet I have never used uber before but other are reporting 42 to 56 $ each way

That does not sound like a bad price if it's for two or more people. For one person, one of the shuttles might be less expensive.

yes that would be for me and my wife thanks I always value your opinions / advise

You're welcome, and I also suggest you also follow Dan-P's advice and query on the Gulf Coast Departures forum. You may find more options there.

We sailed out of Galveston back in July, rented a car and stayed up by the NASA space Center, a 30 minute drive to Port, Hotels were cheaper and we left the car at the EZ lot and did self disembarking and drove back to BUSH. Your going out of Hobby so could either stay there or closer if you wanted to save on Hotel cost. We wanted to tour the Space Center so came in 2 days early and decided to just stay there at our hotel

We drove once and used a car service once. We got in late one night so used the car service $110 and then taxi around the island. I agree with everybody else that Galveston isn't FL when it comes to port services. However, once you are there a must eat place is Cajun Greek the food is excellent and reasonable. A great place to go have a drink and watch the sunset is Woody's.

I switched our reservation from a hotel near cruise port to a hotel near Hobby airport I know people say oh but it's an airport area and becarful. But we're only there one night precruise and my DH will not let us out of his site no matter where we stay😉! The $$ I saved in hotel price was enough to cover the transportation to cruise port. And the hotel we are staying at precruise has a shuttle to take us to the hotel.

We used a town car last time but the cruise line transfer folks were active at Hobby and would have taken us without a reservation. Next trip we are using Cruise Connection - a shared van for around $20 a person. They are taking us to a Galveston hotel from the airport rather than the ship. Downside is that this is at scheduled times, not on demand.
