Banana15 Posted August 20, 2017 #1 Share Posted August 20, 2017 This is our first time on X Cruises and I've seen some photos of the shopping onboard, but I wanted to know what types of stores are onboard the Equinox. The cruises I've taken only had a gift shop and liquor store. Anyone recall some of the stores or have some photos? Does it cover a large portion of a deck? ClaudiaB Posted August 21, 2017 #3 Share Posted August 21, 2017 The shops are on two decks, 4 and 5 I believe. They don't take up the whole deck. There are "high end" shops and "low end" to describe it basically. Fine jewelry, nice bags (Michael Kors, Kate Spade), nicer ladies and men's clothing. Maybe a couple more. On the other deck is a shop area with costume jewelry, scarves, watches, bags, and tee shirts, jackets, etc. Several times during the cruise there are tables set out with $10 "deals." You can get alcohol and cigarettes at one shop although I've never even stepped in that one. The casino sometimes has a raffle of a Michael Kors bag to people playing slots and table games from a certain time. One time we bought a pair of black socks for DH when he forgot some, and I bought some mascara another time. You can use your on board credit. I bought a MK bag last cruise which I love and use all the time. I wouldn't have bought it retail at home but it feels free with OBC!
jacen Posted August 21, 2017 #4 Share Posted August 21, 2017 Hi again,OBC is not free, you've paid for it already,it may feel free, but you end up buying stuff that you don't need, adds to the weight of the cases if you fly.I've come home with coffee mugs,do dads, just to use the OBC. Plus, this keeps the merchants on board happy and in business and the wives happy !!! Sent from my iPad using Forums
iancal Posted August 21, 2017 #5 Share Posted August 21, 2017 We have been on several Celebrity ships. Twice on Equinox, DW's favourite. Cannot recall buying anything except a CItizen eco watch. Supposedly a special bargain...50-60 percent discount. We bought it because DW liked it. No bargain, same price as in some of the FLL shops. That is it, our sium total for at least 10 Celebrity cruises. Oh...that plus a bottle of nail polish remover.

We had something like $1900 OBC, much of it from our online TA, and we had all the perks already. Most of it we just refunded to our credit card and we spent a little of it, but the last night I figured why not get a "seems like free" purse. I don't buy souvenirs anymore - At my age I've been there done that and I don't wear tee shirts with my favorite food or sports team or vacation spot. The bag went home over my shoulder on the plane. RichardE954 Posted August 21, 2017 #8 Share Posted August 21, 2017 Yes, the prices are not deals, but for some shopping is part of the cruise experience and it's always fun to come home with something new.

Love it. We reached the same situation in life. We have too much and don't want anymore. I think there is a lot to what was preached in the Bible. Give away what you have and don't seek earthly possessions to find true happiness. Can't believe all of the stuff that we have accumulated over time. Some is needed and most is because we thought that we needed it Happy cruising 🌊🚢🇺🇸🌞
mek Posted August 22, 2017 #10 Share Posted August 22, 2017 The $175 OBC we had covered a good portion of our tips last week on Equinox. We're elite and have free drinks before dinner and we don't gamble. No shore excursions on this itinerary - W Caribbean, as we have been there many times. We did have lunch and drinks on shore. I bought several Cokes, took an Apple class, had lunch in Sushi on 5. Our final bill was $
trafficgirl124 Posted August 22, 2017 #11 Share Posted August 22, 2017 We had 350.00 ship board credit last week on the Equinox, had dinner at the steak house, hubby bought a watch, I bought perfume and hubby bought 2 t-shirts. Final bill was $10.

trafficgirl124 Posted August 22, 2017 #13 Share Posted August 22, 2017 When we booked we had all 4 perks included. Prepaid gratuities. Premium bev package. Free internet and 300.00 shipboard credit. My TA gave us another 50.00 We booked last August for this year (Aug 6). It was a special as I think Celebrity just came back to the Caribbean this summer. Cruisegoer Posted August 22, 2017 #14 Share Posted August 22, 2017 How do you get all the obc? It's called cruise line promotions and sometimes a good T/A who does alot of Celebrity business. There were people on our 8/6 sailing talking about receiving $600 OBC and they booked in like March 2017. We booked in July and got $175 OBC. It just depends. Seldom you see travel agencies who can beat the advertised web promotions which Celebrity may offer but it can happen, especially if its a high volume agency. I've seen some OBC's for our May 2018 sailing, but they are for balcony and OV cabins. There was such a huge price jump between the inside and OV that we just wanted to save the extra money for excursions, etc.

The difference I have found is that TA's frequently offer a better cabin price than most cruise line web sites while also offering the same or better perks. People may think they're getting more from the cruise line, but in reality the price is inflated to cover the cost of them.

Lately I've seen some great OBC's and perks for insides and nothing offered for OV's or balconies.

mek Posted August 23, 2017 #20 Share Posted August 23, 2017 Mek, how did you enjoy Sushi on 5? It was very good - I had hot dumplings and a California Roll - but the service was SLOW. The dumplings arrived quickly along with edamame, but the California Roll took almost 40 minutes to be served from the time we arrived. The place was busy, but I thought that was crazy. Fortunately, it was the first sea day and we were just relaxing and not in a hurry.
