Suite check-in

We are sailing on the Star out of Civitavecchia Rome Italy in a suite. We have been in other suites before, and always had a separate area that suite guest would go to sit, and have snacks and drinks while waiting to board the ship. Does Civitavecchia also offer this for suite guest? It's been two years since my last NCL cruise and I don't see anywhere on my cruise docs where it states I'm a suite. For some reason it seems like it was always listed on previous cruise docs but now it's just got the cabin number. Not sure how they would know I'm in a suite just by glancing at the cabin number. Have things changed?

If your room number starts with "S" or "H" they will know.

That's what I thought. I figured it had some kind of marking but the only thing my docs says is:

11020 - FWD DECK 11

Maybe suite guest checks in with everyone else?

11020 is a Starboard side SC 2 BR Family Suite. This is a great room with almost 600 Sq Ft of room. You have 2 bathrooms, one regular BR, and a tiny second bedroom that would be appropriate for children. The master bath is very nice with a huge double vanity and mirror. It also has a whirlpool tub and a separate ultra luxurious shower. The shower and tub are on the ocean-side for spectacular views while you are soaking. You will like this room a lot.

Don't know about a boarding lounge in Civitavicchia but you will be in the first boarding group and, if you like, you will be escorted by your butler directly to Cagney's for a suite lunch.

When we sailed out of Rome we were in a suite also. We did not have any special waiting area because it was such a small group boarding we walked in and went straight to the counter and then aboard. Keep in mind that most started their cruise in Barcelona and Rome was a port stop. We arrived about noon and had the ship pretty much to ourselves for a few hours. Our Safety drill was held in the theater and was short and sweet without the crowd and chaos afterward. We loved Rome and were so happy we decided to embark there and spend a few days pre cruise.

There will definitely be a separate check-in for suites, and if you would like to have some paperwork that has more information than just the cabin number and deck, then I advise you to just print out the confirmation you received by e-mail when you first booked (in addition to printing out your e-docs).

We are sailing in a suite on our upcoming Sun cruise this November and I too noticed that the edocs only list the cabin number and show no indication of being in a suite. I would assume that the people in the suite check in area have a list of guests names who are in the suites. We did receive the priority luggage tags in the mail the other day so perhaps those can be used to indicate you are traveling in a suite.

Just looked at my edocs for my December Breakaway sailing, and although it doesn't specify suite (Haven) near the cabin #, if you look below the print luggage tag suitcase icon it does say "HAVEN" (in gold print) there.....that's what they looked at in the terminal in NY the last cruise we were on.

See if your edocs might say "SUITE" there....

You will be leaving your luggage with those tags with porters before you enter the terminal. You will then have to go through an airport style scanner where your hand luggage and bags will be scanned.

Once you have done in that area look around at the check-in desk area. There are signs indicating special areas such as suite check-in, latitudes, casino and so on. Or find someone who looks like an employee and ask them where the suite check-in area is. When you get there you will be met by someone with a list of names. They will check your name against the list and then show you where to go next.

On one occasion I could see our name about 3rd or 4th down reading it upside down. She said you are not on the list. I said please look again I see my name. Still no. So I pointed and she went Oh. Yeah. No apology. Moral; be persistent.

Be aware you are the same as everyone else until you reach that check-in area so you will not get any preferential tratments until you are checked in.
