Rare justhappy Posted October 17, 2017 #1 Share Posted October 17, 2017 It's not yet final payment date yet, I want to go from my current inside to a balcony. Can I just pay the difference or will I have to cancel and rebook? Also they are now offering OBC, my original reservation didn't have that. Will I need to cancel and rebook to receive that? weltek Posted October 17, 2017 #2 Share Posted October 17, 2017 It's likely you'll need to cancel/rebook, but sometimes they are able to simply adjust your reservation. It's pretty quick and painless, either way.
garycarla Posted October 17, 2017 #3 Share Posted October 17, 2017 Last post is accurate. Call in and see. Double check current prices online before calling.
SlipperyVic Posted October 17, 2017 #4 Share Posted October 17, 2017 You don't have to cancel when your upgrading. If you want to downgrade or move laterally you will have to cancel.
jchillin Posted October 17, 2017 #5 Share Posted October 17, 2017 We are sailing this Saturday 😁 we decided to upgrade last week (10 days prior) it was no problem and we just paid the difference Sent from my SM-G955U using Forums mobile app

I don’t know about this if you book direct, but definitely not true if you book with a TA. Sent from my iPhone using Forums

No need to cancel and rebook. Just call your TA, or the NCL 800# if you booked direct and they will handle it. This happens all the time and is not a big deal at all. newmexicoNita Posted October 18, 2017 #9 Share Posted October 18, 2017 Because you not only want to upgrade you want the OBC I would advise you call NCL (I am assuming you did not use a TA) you most likely will have to cancel and rebook as you are not only upgrading but you are adding a new perk. Rare justhappy Posted October 18, 2017 Author #10 Share Posted October 18, 2017 Thanks to all that answered. I did book direct with NCL, but now I'm wondering if I'll be better off money wise to wait till after final payment and see if the price drops. Even though I wouldn't get OBC, the difference in price might be lower. It's an eastern Caribbean cruise that's been changed to Grand Cayman, Nassau and Great Stirrup Cay in late January. I know it's a gamble, and I don't want to do the upgrade bidding since I want to be able to pick a cabin to stay near friends we are traveling with. It's their first time with NCL. deliver42 Posted October 18, 2017 #11 Share Posted October 18, 2017 You are really spinning the roulette wheel doing it that way. Both on price, and cabin choices.

ray98 Posted October 18, 2017 #14 Share Posted October 18, 2017 As above....call and ask. They may accommodate you, if there are any complications or uncertainties then just cancel and re-book at that time.

After final payment, this cat cabin is now available for $1,060 less for new bookings. There seems to be a large number of M9 cabins available. NCL is sticking to their policy of no changes without cancellation fee of total amount of first cruise. One would think they NCL would prefer to keep customers coming back rather than alienating them.

So many people think that after final payment they are simply going to pay the difference based on the new booking price... NOT the way it really works. They will roll penalties into the price of your upgrade. It does kind of suck, but I can understand their logic for doing it that way.
