Rare Tothesunset Posted June 3, 2018 #3476 Share Posted June 3, 2018 This is a sculpture I have always longed to see and it is sublime in the flesh, so to speak. So names of sculptor and sculpture please. And current location. Sent from my Moto G (5) using Forums mobile app
Rare mysty Posted June 3, 2018 #3477 Share Posted June 3, 2018 OK TTS...I will admit to a cheat here. I apologize in advance. If the ref blows the foul whistle I will bow my head in shame. From wikipedia: " [/url]The Three Graces, Canova's first version, now in the Hermitage Museum Antonio Canova’s statue The Three Graces is a Neoclassical sculpture, in marble, of the mythological three charites, daughters of Zeus – identified on some engravings of the statue as, from left to right, Euphrosyne, Aglaea and Thalia - who were said to represent youth/beauty (Thalia), mirth (Euphrosyne), and elegance (Aglaea). The Graces presided over banquets and gatherings, to delight the guests of the gods. As such they have served as subjects for historical artists including Sandro Botticelli and Bertel Thorvaldsen. A version of the sculpture is in the Hermitage Museum, another is owned jointly and exhibited in turn by the Victoria and Albert Museum and the National Galleries of Scotland." No points are expected! :) And chastisement will be accepted. The current location from the source may in fact be in error.
UKCruiseJeff Posted June 3, 2018 #3478 Share Posted June 3, 2018 Welcome home Soapy ... the place has been emptier without you! :D (The Three Grces by Canova in the Hermitage in what people of my age still call Leningrad .....) :)

Rare jpalbny Posted June 4, 2018 #3483 Share Posted June 4, 2018 (edited) Jeff is right. You're in Letna Park, Prague. Last May - the building in TTS's picture is over my right shoulder. The two bridges are past Chris. We are a little further west than the perspective in his picture, so we don't have the closest bridge in our shot. Rare Tothesunset Posted June 4, 2018 #3489 Share Posted June 4, 2018 Good Morning all ... from a sunny UK. Looks Prague'ish TTS. Yes it is. And strangely the first post iron curtain country other than Russia that I've visited. Too many shirtless drunken Brits on the streets for my liking. Edit. Oh and Estonia. And the old East Germany. So I'm talking nonsense!

Rare jpalbny Posted June 4, 2018 #3491 Share Posted June 4, 2018 Shallots! I knew they were some kind of allium, but they looked too big and too translucent for garlic. An accompaniment to fish and chips? Thanks for your kind comments on the picture. It reminds me that I never blogged about that trip last year - 9 days with 3 each in Prague, Berlin, and Copenhagen. What fun! But a whirlwind. Sent from my SM-G930T using Forums mobile app
UKCruiseJeff Posted June 4, 2018 #3492 Share Posted June 4, 2018 I have just heard the answer of the year given on a TV general knowledge programme. Q - “‘What do,you get when you cross a horse with a donkey?” A - “ A honkey”

Camillus112 Posted June 4, 2018 #3494 Share Posted June 4, 2018 Mysty, Jeff can do funnies, too. JP, you visited Copenhagen... we are going in July and the organization is putting us up in The Strand. I wonder if you know anything about it. It gets very good reviews in TripAdvisor, but I would feel better if you could comment. The organization in Xalapa felt we should experience a colonial abode, but it was very uncomfortable. Not nice to complain.
UKCruiseJeff Posted June 4, 2018 #3495 Share Posted June 4, 2018 Hi both, yes it was a genuine answer given by a member if the fresher generation to grace us. In a way it is a good answer being sort of onomatopoeic. She was around 25 I think.
Rare jpalbny Posted June 4, 2018 #3496 Share Posted June 4, 2018 Cams, that's a beautiful location but I don't know that hotel. We stayed on the other side of the tracks, so to say... Sent from my SM-G930T using Forums mobile app
Rare jpalbny Posted June 4, 2018 #3497 Share Posted June 4, 2018 Ha, the portmanteau honkey is closer than I thought to a real word (hinny) for the offspring. The more common mule is the offspring of a male donkey x female horse. The offspring of a male horse x female donkey is called a hinny. UKCruiseJeff Posted June 4, 2018 #3499 Share Posted June 4, 2018 Hi, I thought this list might be of interest to some coolers. Whilst GRT (Gross Registered Tonnage) is a great measure of the total size of a ship, it is often useful to be able to measure what that would mean to individual guests. For example a large ship with 1,000 guests on-board may feel just as spacious to a guest as a small ship with just a few hundred guests on-board. The Guest-space ratio effectively divides the total amount of ship space by the number of guests onboard to give us amount of space per person. It is not an exact amount (some space on-board cruise ships is just for crew for example), but it does set a standard so that we can compare ships and the likely guest experience. The guest-space ratio = GRT / number of guests The higher the space ratio, then the more space per person; and this reflects in the experience for the guest. For example, Queen Mary 2 is 148,528 GRT and 2,620 guests = Guest-space ratio of 56.7 Meanwhile Seabourn Quest is 32,646 GRT and 450 guests = Guest-space ratio of 72.6 This would tell us that guests on Seabourn Quest enjoy more space per person - and indeed that makes logical sense as ultra-luxury cruise lines charge a higher price for many things, including the feeling of space. Shadow and Whisper are #2. It doesn't include some newer ships ... but I haven't seen a newer one. https://www.widgety.co.uk/media/W1siZiIsIjIwMTcvMDkvMDQvMTMvNDMvMjIvOGI5YzZmOWYtMGQ3MS00NTBlLWI4MGEtYTE4ZTZmNDFhNTg5L1Bhc3NlbmdlciBTcGFjZSBSYXRpby5wZGYiXV0/Passenger%20Space%20Ratio.pdf?sha=2994f7e05a8eb95f
rosepark Posted June 4, 2018 #3500 Share Posted June 4, 2018 Afternoon all, nose very firmly back on the grindstone after our Spirit sojourn, where it was lovely to meet Miss Sophia. The dead letter drop worked well and we found we were neighbours on board, what a coincidence, eh? Rp
