Zenica Posted November 25, 2017 #1 Share Posted November 25, 2017 Is the area where you wait to board the vessel an indoor area or outdoor area? Is it more like an airport terminal with a few shops/restaurants or is it just a building/open space to act as a staging area? How far from the parking is the area where to board? davy jones Posted November 25, 2017 #3 Share Posted November 25, 2017 It is not like an airport. There are no shops and restaurants. It is indoors though. Parking at NYC is on the roof of the pier. You take an elevator from parking to check in.
Rare Peachypooh Posted November 25, 2017 #4 Share Posted November 25, 2017 It's indoors and has bathrooms. Although indoors is a relative concept. We had birds flying through the concierge lounge the last time so it is more like a Costco warehouse with lots of opportunities to let the elements in. Rare mking8288 Posted November 26, 2017 #9 Share Posted November 26, 2017 MCT's curbside dropoff area is covered but open. A short walk to go inside pre-security ... and the long pier building has roof-top parking directly above, access via giant elevators, typically with HVAC for year-round comfort. Beyond secured area, there are restrooms, seating area & lounge area divided and roped off for VIP and guests with "status" etc. - it is functional, not a first class airline club lounge, far better than the 1990's for those of us that remember. No gift shops or restaurants. There are vending machine for beverages and a food concession stand selling snacks, chips, cookies, coffee and other non-alcoholic drinks while you wait. Cruise lines usually do make available potable drinking water for those waiting to board. Those checked into the designated Haven waiting area before escorted boarding are allowed ... usually are treated to munchies & goodies.
bigfoot88 Posted November 26, 2017 #10 Share Posted November 26, 2017 For such a beautiful city the Manhattan terminal is the pits. :( It's not Miami but it's better than it was. They have upgraded the waiting area, seating, restrooms, and the gangways in the few years.
darlene62 Posted November 26, 2017 #11 Share Posted November 26, 2017 I know not your question but a heads up to anyone who has to wait outside the terminal for their bus. There is no area to sit and wait for your bus and very little covered areas. There maybe a hot dog/pretzel place to grab something to eat or drink. I use Yankee travels bus from upstate NY and it's an awesome service. I have learned not to rush off the ship, the bus won't get there till around 10:30 give or take traffic etc. One of the best perks of the bus....they wont leave without you :)
Rare BirdTravels Posted November 26, 2017 #12 Share Posted November 26, 2017 The info and link has answered the question. Thanks everyone. You will drop your bags with curbside porters for delivery to your room You will go through airport-like security check. No beverages allowed past security. On big ships (Breakaway), they will have check in counters on either side of the terminal based on your deck. Once you check in, you can take an embarkation photo and grab a chair in the waiting area. General boarding starts at 11:
