I went on Feb break 2014 and it wasn’t busy at all. We had perfect weather though

Was on that one as well. Weather was much much better than the following year.

Which pool was more crowded? The adult-only pool (forward) or the family pool (near the water slides)?

They both were pretty crowded during February Break. The adult only pool had security kicking out everyone they thought were under 18. Which led to witnessing some fun conversations

I was born in NOLA. And live less than an hour from it. If you like coffee, check out cafe du monde. I love that place but go to convington, la to get my fix. I’m the same as you, always cruised with carnival, with one with RC. Just couldn’t pass up NCL special. Plus she is so pretty. Very contemporary. Always wanted to check out NCL. I’ve talked to a lot of nice people who cruise only NCL. I think we will have a blast.

I love coffee :) I will definitely go and check out Cafe du Monde ! thank you for the referral ... What about food? Suggestions for authentic food that will be in an appropriate venue for all ages? I will have my youngest son who will be 11, my oldest who will be 20 and then myself as well as a couple of adult friends

We had lunch in Antoine's and loved it. They have a $20.17 three course lunch which also entitles you to

three 25cent cocktails of the day. We had the shrimp etouffee for a main course. If you are thinking of going there they have their seasonal menu on their website. Antoine's has aprox 13 or 14 dining rooms in a historic

building that has been operating since the 1800's. A must see.

The Breakaway was our first cruise and we loved it. Nothing to complain about with respect to the vessel itself. The premium dining for us wasn't so, premium. It was just different in comparison to the free dining venues. Our favorite was the Garden Cafe and Shanghai Noodle.

The staff were fantastic.

The only gripe we had were the long lines and feel of over crowding, especially at the pool area and bars.

Our cabin had plenty of space for us and the balcony was a decent size too. It would be great if they had a kids channel so in hindsight, next time we'll pack more for the kids to watch. My son kept wanting to watch "channel 10", the safety channel where they go over the do's and don'ts.

I have the Specialty Dining package with the promo that ended up with i was able to pick two. I was considering the steakhouse but i'm not hearing many good reviews toward that direction.

I've read that there are a couple of bar areas that are rarely crowded and have the better bartenders so I'm going to try to hit those (if i can find that post again that detailed that... dumb me didnt write the info down)

Was there not enough kid's friendly activities to keep the kiddos happy/occupied ? asking because of the comment of the television comment. On Carnival my youngest was so wiped out by the time he would get back to the room that he would pass out the second his head hit the pillow, TV wasnt even a thought for a change lol

We are in the exact same boat (pun intended) and leaving about 90 days behind you so please post a review when you come back :D

Love the pun!! I will definitely do a review with pictures :) From what I've been reading the ship will be in dry dock getting a makeover in the spring for a couple of weeks before her move down to New Orleans so when we see her she should be nice and shiny refreshed :)

While you have your coffee at Cafe du Monde, have a few beignets.

Also try Drago's for some good seafood.

I'll second this. It's definitely pricey for dinner but that lunch price is a steal. And it's relatively fast if you order from the prix fixe menu, so the little one won't get bored or fidgety. If you want a show with your dessert, order the café diabolique, which is a flambe coffee prepared tableside.

That said, whether you go to Antoine's or not, finding good food will be the easiest part of your New Orleans visit.

The casino smoke permeates the 6/7/8 atrium area into le bistro and the waterfront area is next to a bar smoking area and the eating areas on deck 8 atrium area also get the smoke. This of course may thrill some pax. Not all pax. Lol

Im wondering if this is the same for all ships, the Carnival ships i was on were the same, the casino areas were central and you had to pass through to get to activities at one end or the other so you had to walk through the smoke filled casino. On the Carnival Breeze, i would literally go out of my way to avoid the casino so i wouldnt have to go through all the smoke. I would go down or up a deck walk as far in one direction as i could take the elevator down to where i needed to go and then go to the area i wanted to be in

I will definitely put this on our list of "must do's" thank you!

the café diabolique sounds awesome - i will have to try that.

Do you have any tips on what i should absolutely stay away from in New Orleans with having an 11 year old boy with me ?

Although I saw some kids on Bourbon Street, you could probably miss it and still have an awesome time taking an eleven year old boy around. I know I don't need to revisit that street. It has it's own aroma....
