pamelahigg Posted January 24, 2018 #1 Share Posted January 24, 2018 We are considering a cruise in March out of Baltimore to Bahamas and Grand Turk. The ship - the Carnival Pride - has a nice water park and outdoor pools which our kids will love. However, we are concerned that they will actually be able to use them or if it will be too cold. This is really a key part of our decision on whether to do the trip or not. Does anyone know? Many thanks!
Clarea Posted January 24, 2018 #2 Share Posted January 24, 2018 First and last day are likely to be pretty cool.
spookwife Posted January 24, 2018 #3 Share Posted January 24, 2018 Assume the first 2 days and last day the pools will be unusable Sent from my iPad using Forums
Pudgesmom Posted January 24, 2018 #4 Share Posted January 24, 2018 At that time of year, it’s possible it will also be too cold to swim in the Bahamas. They are not in the Caribbean and can have cooler weather in winter and spring.
Rare Keith1010 Posted January 25, 2018 #5 Share Posted January 25, 2018 I too would assume the first 2 days will be on the cooler side. Keith
Krazy Kruizers Posted January 25, 2018 #6 Share Posted January 25, 2018 HAL used to have a ship sail out of Baltimore. The first 2 days were cold and the seas were rough. The same weather for the last 2 days returning to Baltimore.
Underwatr Posted January 25, 2018 #7 Share Posted January 25, 2018 Prudent reminder: although March is pretty much springtime in the mid-Atlanic states, sometimes you can get a March snowstorm with accumulation of a foot or more. Don't automatically assume you'll be able to drive/fly in on embarkation day. Have a plan B.
cb at sea Posted January 25, 2018 #8 Share Posted January 25, 2018 March is still pretty chilly around this area...although, you can really never predict the weather... If you want total warm weather, start to finish, you'll need to go out of southern ports.
CM1984 Posted January 28, 2018 #9 Share Posted January 28, 2018 Yep, what the above folks said. We took that same cruise in April 2016 on the Pride, and going down for 2 days were too chilly to use the pools, same on the way back. Weather hot in Bahamas and Gran Turk. Caribbean Sea was cooler but enjoyable after a few minutes.
Oshawapilot Posted January 28, 2018 #10 Share Posted January 28, 2018 Baltimore is a crapshoot, have sailed out of it many times. Have had departures and arrivals in beautifully warm weather even in the traditional winter months, and have also had the opposite and woke up to snow on the pool deck on our debarkation morning once. As for the Bahamas in March, probably going to be decent, but yes, they are not that far off the coast of FL which this winter has been suffering through some cold snaps, so again, you never know what you're going to get. But March is fairly late in the winter, so again you're probably reasonably safe. Ultimately, if you want guaranteed warm, cruise out of FL and do a Caribbean itinerary.
