Nurseypoo11 Posted February 11, 2018 #1 Share Posted February 11, 2018 Just booked my first cruise! I will be on the Carnival Triumph on June 28, 2018 - July 2, 2018! Any tips pertaining to this boat, the ports (New Orleans & Cozumel) or cruising in general are appreciated! jordanaire Posted February 11, 2018 #3 Share Posted February 11, 2018 You will need to tip your cabin steward, your dining room team and Maitre'd. If you use Camp Carnival for your kids, they will deserve a tip as well. Sent from my LG-LS993 using Forums mobile app

jerrya72 Posted February 12, 2018 #5 Share Posted February 12, 2018 The Triumph was our first cruise and we loved it, will be back on in about 35 days. Review the deck plans on certain decks you can't get from the front to the back. Also if you want to go to any of the shows go about 30 minutes early so you get a good seat. sw33twif3 Posted February 15, 2018 #7 Share Posted February 15, 2018 I will be on the Triumph in April, but I've sailed on her before. Bar tabs get automatic 15%. I'm a generous sort, so I prepay my gratuities then give extra to my room steward and waiters who give good service. I get envelopes from the Pursers desk and give cash on the last day of the cruise. sw33twif3 Posted February 15, 2018 #8 Share Posted February 15, 2018 New Orleans is a great city! But you are coming in summer. It's going to be hot and steamy. Bring sunscreen and arrange to go to cool locations. I like the Aquarium if I'm bringing kids. I live in New Orleans, so I stay away from the French Quarter. If I want to "party" I go to Frenchmen's Street or Uptown to Magazine. Tchoupitoulas in the Warehouse district is fun, too. Cochons is a great restaurant. And Lucy's is a fun bar. But every bar in New Orleans is fun and funky.
sw33twif3 Posted February 15, 2018 #9 Share Posted February 15, 2018 And I almost forgot, if you are a history buff, you have to see the World War II Museum! It is amazing!
Rare Saint Greg Posted February 15, 2018 #10 Share Posted February 15, 2018 Nice room location. Just go up one deck and you're in the lido buffet. My rooms on Triumph didn't have a fridge so bringing a small collapsible cooler and having the room steward bring ice was important. Just ask them on the first day they'll bring a bucket and refill it each time they clean the room.

Songbyrd8403 Posted February 16, 2018 #13 Share Posted February 16, 2018 Triumph was my first cruise in 2012! Make sure you have a light shaw or windbreaker if you choose to go to dinner. The a/c is real in those restaurants! Sent from my iPhone using Forums

Jenn1974 Posted February 16, 2018 #15 Share Posted February 16, 2018 I'll be on the Triumph in 34 days. I am super excited. I guess my biggest tip to a new cruiser would be to remember a power strip with usb for charging devices that doesn't have a surge protector. And a battery powered night light. Sarcastic Mama Posted February 17, 2018 #16 Share Posted February 17, 2018 We just got off the Triumph, didn't enjoy the ship so much, but loved New Orleans and Cozumel. Progreso was nice. Piranha Joes has some fun t-shirts. My daughter was with us and she loves the teen club. Bring some sunscreen, a hat, bug spray, and a dirty clothes bag. We were on deck 9 so being on deck 8 will make it easy to get to the pools and the lido buffet. Have fun.

grantbob Posted February 20, 2018 #19 Share Posted February 20, 2018 I have never heard that tips are expected for kids club staff. All of those are included (waiter, steward, etc.) in the pre-paid gratuities. It's the easiest way to go.
