kftw Posted March 16, 2018 #1 Share Posted March 16, 2018 Anyone know why HAL dropped the Veendam Newfoundland cruises for 2019? There were 3. 10 day, 11 day & the 21 day. We were really excited about this itinerary.
Rare 3rdGenCunarder Posted March 16, 2018 #2 Share Posted March 16, 2018 Veendam's schedule has been changed. She's now in the Med because Venice is clamping down on big ships, so HAL is sending a smaller one. Here's a recent thread about that. https://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=2611577

Rare boards Posted March 16, 2018 #4 Share Posted March 16, 2018 Has anyone heard why the cruises of the Veendam that included Newfoundland were cancelled or were they to be rescheduled to another cruise ship?
ellieanne Posted March 16, 2018 #5 Share Posted March 16, 2018 This is the second year in a row HAL has dropped the really nice itineraries that included Newfoundland. I am really sorry about that, because some of my favorite cruises have included stops in Corner Brook and St. John's. It makes me really nervous about any future itineraries that might include Newfoundland.

triplestar Posted March 16, 2018 #7 Share Posted March 16, 2018 There is a cruise in September 2019 on the Rotterdam which visits Newfoundland, Labrador, Greenland & Iceland. Its a 24 night cruise Boston to Boston

Its a 24 night cruise Boston to Boston It's a lovely itinerary, but I can't afford 24 days, the shorter 10-11 day cruises were perfect.
joekerstef Posted March 17, 2018 #9 Share Posted March 17, 2018 as ellieanne pointed out, this is the second year in a row these itineraries have been scrapped. We were supposed to do the 11 day this year. I really hope they do actually run this cruise at some point; I'd really like to take this as opposed to the standard seven day Boston to Montreal run. ellieanne Posted March 17, 2018 #11 Share Posted March 17, 2018 Me, too. :( I was lucky enough to take a cruise on the Rotterdam that went out to St. John's, when there were still icebergs in the harbor in June! and another cruise that was a fall repositioning cruise that went to Corner Brook. They were both itineraries and I hope that HAL can make a go of similar itineraries in 2020, but the back-to-back cancellations are really scaring me out of booking them if they are offered in 2020. Rare Gail & Marty sailing away Posted March 17, 2018 #12 Share Posted March 17, 2018 I think because it was not a money maker.
ellieanne Posted March 17, 2018 #13 Share Posted March 17, 2018 Well, they are certainly not going to be money-makers if they keep canceling them!
