mickletickle Posted March 21, 2018 #1 Share Posted March 21, 2018 Someone mentioned in a post they wished they used OBC to pay gratuities? Can that be done? We have earned a lot of extra OBC due to credit cards. We do not drink alcohol, coffee, or soda so felt we might have to look for ways to use up OBC. Traveling with children in group this cruise, and they are not planning Specialty Restaurants and we are doing what the group chooses. Itinerary does not excite since have done so many times I will only book excursions if others do.
sredish Posted March 21, 2018 #2 Share Posted March 21, 2018 Of course! OBC is used toward anything purchased on board, including the daily gratuities.
nelblu Posted March 21, 2018 #3 Share Posted March 21, 2018 Yes, I've done it many times and also cashed any unused balances towards add'l grats.
mickletickle Posted March 21, 2018 Author #4 Share Posted March 21, 2018 Thanks so much. Asked and answered. In OBC description did not see anywhere gratuities listed except those for drink and spa purchases etc ... So I thought RCCL might restrict to get you to spend more to account rather than use for gratuities. If anything left the suggestion to use the remainder to pay additional gratuity a good idea. May or may not be an issue but we do not tend to spend a lot to account anyway and do not know choices others will make. OBC will be larger than our normal one. Thank you. karena1 Posted March 21, 2018 #6 Share Posted March 21, 2018 OBC can be used for anything you buy on the ship!
SG65CB Posted March 21, 2018 #7 Share Posted March 21, 2018 Just be sure you have not elected prepaid gratuities, which are paid by credit card with final payment. The default is gratuities are deducted daily from your account on the ship unless you have specified otherwise.
Giantfan13 Posted March 22, 2018 #8 Share Posted March 22, 2018 As has been said, you can use your OBC to pay for anything charged to your on board account, be it drinks, souvenirs, tips, excursions, watches ,diamonds for you or your DW:):), anything you use your card to charge something, including your service charges, Cheers Len
Snit13 Posted March 22, 2018 #9 Share Posted March 22, 2018 This is true for Royal but NOT TRUE for NCL in the event you sail with them. We had OBC from NCL and were not allowed to use it to pay our gratuities thus we had to buy liquor to bring home. So sad, still enjoying it. We sailed the Breakaway in January and had $150OBC which we used to pay off our gratuities. Except for a magnet, it was the only thing we bought on the ship and our total at the end of the cruise was the 14 days of gratuities and the magnet, minus the $150. Never heard of this prior to this cruise as we have used ship's OBC on Celebrity and on Royal. The two bottles of booze was the only thing be purchased other then specialty dining. Poochie71 Posted March 23, 2018 #12 Share Posted March 23, 2018 Don't leave any onboard credit on your accounts because it probably won't be refunded to you. If you have any left over go to the casino and get cash on your room card. It will get charged to your room and come off any credit you have. You will be charged a fee but it's better than leaving OBC and losing it.
yuvraj Posted March 23, 2018 #13 Share Posted March 23, 2018 Just to confirm what others have said. Yes you can use OBC to pay gratuities charged to your account. I do it all the time and it is one of many reasons why I choose not to pre-pay gratuities.
Grandma Dazzles Posted March 23, 2018 #14 Share Posted March 23, 2018 Yes, you can use OBC to pay your gratuities. Your account will show the OBC (you can view on your cabin TV) and all purchases, daily gratuities are deducted. At the end of the cruise if you still have OBC guest services will refund to you., depending on what type of credit and who it was from. Guest services will advise if it is a refundable credit or not. If it is non refundable you can cash it out in the casino. Casino has a charge, 3-5%, not sure exactly, but better than losing.
