Would Oasis class fit under the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge?

 

Only if they have the ability to lower the stacks as the Oasis and Allure had to do to clear the Great Belt Bridge. Thought I read somewhere on CC that they do not use that feature anymore. The Oasis class has an air draft of 236' and the Verrazano- Narrow Bridge has a navigational clearance of 215'.

well if there are two more besides the announced 5 Oasis, I hope they remove the ugly PINK slide.

 

But really, what can Miami or Ft Lauderdale do with 6 ships the size of Oasis since they can't go through the panama canal and under the bridge at the end.

Completely agree. I had hoped it would be a one-of on Harmony but sadly not :(

I’m not a fan of the the slides either, and the current design of the Boardwalk for that matter.

I think that is STX's load plan, to deliver 19 ships. Not the same as firm orders?

While the Oasis class is not too wide for the Suez (47m waterline, 60.5m maximum beam versus 77.5m Suezmax), nor too deep (9.3m versus 20.1m Suezmax), she is too high for the power lines across the canal (72m versus 68m Suezmax), though if they take the original Oasis with the retractable funnels (not sure if they continued this on later ships), she might make it.

 

As for the Capes, she wouldn't go around the Horn, just for weather's sake, and Good Hope is a much more pleasant voyage, but the number of fuel stops would require a lot of logistics.

 

Both Oasis and Allure was built in Finland and had to pass under the bridge "Stora bältbron" in Denmark, with the retractable funnels down the ships are 64,75 meter high.

No not the same, once again nothing has been confirmed. The caption in the picture says "commandes ET projets". That basically means firm orders and projected ones, so still not confirmed it is just a place holder in case they get the order.

 

There is another article on the mer et marine website (https://www.meretmarine.com/fr/content/stx-france-compte-sortir-au-moins-19-navires-dici-2026) about St Nazaire's orders that was published today that says the following :

 

 

En 2016 et 2018, STX France a livré à sa filiale Royal Caribbean International deux géants de la classe Oasis, l’Harmony of the Seas et le Symphony of the Seas. Avec leurs 362 mètres de long, 57 mètres de large, 228.000 GT de jauge et jusqu’à 2759 cabines, ces navires hors normes sont les plus gros paquebots actuellement en service. Et la série va se poursuivre. D’ores et déjà, une nouvelle unité de ce type a été commandée pour une livraison en 2021. Mais l’armateur, comme nous le révélions en mars dernier, compte en plus faire construire deux Oasis supplémentaires, avec comme objectif des entrées en flotte en 2023 et 2026

 

 

Roughly translated it says that they delivered Harmony and Symphony, that a 5th ship has been ordered for 2021 and that the cruise line (l'armateur in the article) intend to build an extra 2 ships for 2023 and 2026. Semantics are very important in this article, they once again never confirm that oasis 6 and 7 have been ordered and that they will be built in St Nazaire.

Thanks -- I've watched a lot of videos of Oasis passing under the Great Belt Bridge (stora-baltbron) and here is a link to one of my favorite from the day by day video posts of Oasis leaving the shipyard in Turku, Findland and coming to Florida.

World class 3 and 4 have not been confirmed yet also but msc is counting them in the total of there new ships ...

Oasis 6 and Oasis 7 have not been confirmed and Royal are not counting them at the moment in their new ships.

 

Don't get me wrong I would love for them to get built and would appreciate it even more if they were done in St Nazaire. All signs point to this happening (placeholders in the STX calendar, Mer and marine talking about it,....) and it will probably be done.

 

But at the moment they are still negotiating, until an official press release confirms the orders we can only speculate on it.
