On one of our Princess Cruises I heard a passenger say he had gotten a better steak at Waffle House.

Doesn't bother me so much as we have great steak at home, in fact we have better food ingredients at home than Princess seem to have now

And we don't book expensive cabins on Princess, but if we were suite passengers paying big $$$ and still having to eat MDR meals I would not be at all happy

What makes you think the Crown Grill hasn’t been slipping? It definitely not as good as it once was. Last year they returned our money because the service was so bad. We were 8 people and it took 4 hrs. for us to get out of there. 6 to10 p.m. The service was TERRIBLE.

That may be, we have not experienced less service, we go as a couple. Did a family dinner twice last year, on the Grand... all was excellent. We now cruise mostly on the Grand since it is our home port... have found service on this ship very good in general. We were on the Royal, on the TA, did the buffet or room service mostly... did not like the location of the Crown Grill so skipped it.

I don't know what pris993's objection(s) might be but we aren't enamored by the fact that the Wheelhouse Bar shares the entrance to the CG and that the musician's area is within feet of 6 or 8 two tops making conversation difficult. We learned after our first cruise on the Royal to request seating in the 'back' of the CG when we make reservations. One time they tried to put us at one of those two tops even after making the request. I politely said we would leave instead. Suddenly a 4 top was available!

I just did a calculation -- this ties into another thread that is discussing moving to a more upscale line. We paid $1250 each for our first cruise in 1986 it was a 7 day on Royal Caribbean, including airfare. I just checked the same length cruise on Oceania and adjusted for inflation and the same class cabin (outside - there were no balconies then) with airfare, the price was almost exactly the same as we paid in 1986. (plus the Oceania cruise has free internet and a drink package included) -- this wasn't some last minute special -- all cabin categories on the cruise I checked were wait-listed.

Maybe it is time to consider loosening the purse strings and pay what we used to, for the quality we used to get. Food for thought -- no pun intended ;p

Yes. Same thing on the airlines. So many people choose based on price, it becomes a race to the bottom.
