Just back from Nachi Cocum today ( a quick review)

Hi all - we’re just back from Nachi today ( myself, DH and our two teens), and I thought I’d give a quick recent review. This is our second visit to Nachi Cocum, our first being about 6 years ago. We’re sailing on Oasis of the Seas.

Getting a taxi at the port was super easy - waited in a line for maybe five minutes. The fare was $20 there ($16 on the way back - I honestly think they just throw dollar amounts out there). Ride was about 10 minutes from the port.

We were greeted by a sweet lady who explained how things work at Nachi. She took a fun picture of us in sombreros, which you could buy later for $12 (we did). We checked in with the hostess and paid our balance via credit card (bring a printed copy of your confirmation). We were introduced to our waiter for the day (Carlos) and escorted to our palapa.

Something to note, Nachi recently increased its limit of persons per day from 100 to 125. There were 4 ships in Coz with us today and it felt like 100 + people were at Nachi with us. With the exception of the crowd at the swim up bar, it didn’t feel overcrowded- however, it didn’t seem like they had enough loungers for everyone ( they tried to steal one of ours while we were at the pool!)

Service was excellent. We had both frozen drinks and bottled beers (no ill affects from the liquor). Food was good - I think the menu was the same from the last time we were there, with a good variety of burgers, fish and Mexican staples. Our group had quesadillas, guacamole and grilled grouper.

People did come around when we first got there to offer us snorkeling, banana boat rides, paddle boarding, etc., but there was no high pressure selling tactics and they moved on once they gave you the info. We didn’t do any of the extras, but a lot of people did and looked like they were enjoying it.

When we wanted to leave, they called us a taxi back to the port. All in all a great day! I’m happy to answer any questions!

Thanks for the review.

Were there a lot of kids?

Yes - there were a number of kids, but it’s everyone’s spring break week, so kind of expected. A less popular week would probably mean less kids.

Thanks for the review.

In general you will find fewer kids at Nachi than at Paradise beach (HUGE pool, water toys), Sanchos (multiple pools, water toys) or Playa Mia (kiddie water park, water toys).

Anyone that has added the snorkel offered through the website I would like to hear how your experience was. We have added as something to break up the time and hope it will be worthwhile! Thanks for the positive review of the spot overall.

We’re going to be at Nachi at the end of April, do you know if they have jet skis to rent? And if so, the cost.

Thanks

2 years ago someone came by offering parasailing and jet skis. Seems like it was $50/half hour, but my memory is fading.

Good concise review. Thank you.

Do you know how many miles were between your port and Nachi Cocom? If about 5 miles or so one way and the road is decent, we might walk to Nachi when in Cozumel in January. We are walkers/runners, so a few miles round trip is no biggie.

It would not be my recommendation due to safety condition of the road for walkers, and heat, but if you are “into” walking/running people do run much further than that during the Ironman competiton (although not along that stretch of road and the roads are closed off).

Distance would depend which port you were docking at?Google maps would be able to answer your question and help you do a virtual walk/run. For example, it lists the distance between Nachi and Puerta Maya (the nearest port) as about 8 miles.

If you are docked at southern piers a walk along cycle/jogging path into town would be much safer.

We went to NC one time last fall and the pool was too hot to swim....perhaps because it is right next to the hot tub that spills over into the main pool. It’s didn’t help that there were several young unsupervised children jumping in and bumping into us with our drinks. We spent most of our time in the ocean. We would probably give it another try.

I didn't see jet skis being offered, but I believe parasailing was an option. Not sure of the price though.

I wouldn't recommend walking either (my feeling was that we drove for at least 10 miles - took about 15 minutes to get there). There are no lines on the road at all and the drivers make a lot of unsafe passes when they come up on a slow moving vehicle. I also saw quite a few scooters and dune buggy vehicles which tend to stay toward the side of the road because they are slower. Not really any room for walking.

My wife and I did the snorkel tour as part of our visit in December. There were two other couples who joined the excursion. We walked to a short pier just near the beach and boarded a small glass bottomed boat. There was a guide and a captain. We boated about ten minutes from the beach to an area that had several coral formations. We saw numerous sea creatures, including sting rays, multiple tropical fish, and a nurse shark. We then reboarded the boat and travelled to the edge of the shelf where the ocean drops into the depths. The water was crystal clear and it was very fun. The guide provided all the gear, life jackets to those who wanted them, and bottled water. The guide was very personable, friendly, and engaged with each guest. My wife and I had an exciting close encounter with a jelly fish, but no one got stung. There was a fresh water shower at Nachi close to the pier for rinsing off. The snorkel trip lasted about 90 minutes and seemed like a good value for $30 per person.

How is the pool area?

Is there a swim up bar?

Are there tables with palapas & chairs? My DH doesn't lay out, just likes to do the shade.

How is the wifi?

thanks for all of your help
