trish1c Posted April 18, 2018 #1 Share Posted April 18, 2018 We're booked on the Gem Dec 22 through Jan 2. Christmas Eve is a sea day & Christmas Day we'll dock in San Juan at 4 p.m. Can anybody confirm that there will be some type of religious service on board for the holiday? I'd prefer Mass with a priest but am open to any Christian based observance. I know the Cathedral in San Juan as a 5 p.m. Mass on Sundays but I'm not sure about Christmas. Should I ask NCL directly? Markanddonna Posted April 18, 2018 #2 Share Posted April 18, 2018 Many longer cruises secure a Roman Catholic priest to celebrate a daily mass. Some ask this man to also officiate at the non-denominational services. I have never seen any cruise line give a Protestant minister a cabin for free, though. I have been on several longer cruises (Panama Canal, transatlantic, transpacific, etc.) where a group of Christians formed and held sea day Bible Studies or gatherings. Each sailing and ship have different practices, so I would contact NCL to find out.
mjkacmom Posted April 18, 2018 #3 Share Posted April 18, 2018 I’m a lax Catholic, but it’s my understanding that Catholic Churches have several Masses every day, 365 days of the year.
Rare All-ready2cruise Posted April 18, 2018 #4 Share Posted April 18, 2018 I found this site and it appears to have valuable info for Christmas! https://www.tripsavvy.com/catedral-de-san-juan-in-old-san-juan-1622000 Enjoy
shadowmeboy Posted April 18, 2018 #5 Share Posted April 18, 2018 On the Star this past Christmas they had an interdenominational service. Here is the freestyle daily from Christmas Eve. Candy Apple 12 Posted April 18, 2018 #6 Share Posted April 18, 2018 You can use this website to find mass times at churches in San Juan. It includes phone numbers and links to the parish websites. You’ll probably need to call to see what their usual schedule for Christmas is. http://masstimes.org

NCL will not offer religious services unless there is a celebrant ob board, in which case they will make space available. I would nto count on there being any structured services on the ship. We were on the Gem a couple of years ago for Christmas, there was a multi-denominational service but that’s it. We planned ahead and had our own celebration. I wouldn’t rely on NCL.
