grandmarnnurse Posted April 22, 2018 #78 Share Posted April 22, 2018 We have been on 16 cruises, number 17 this October. All but one has been on Carnival, the one was Royal Caribbean Explorer of the Seas (RC), which was our second cruise. When we cruised RC we were disappointed with the food and service. For us CCL's food and service was more to our liking. RC's ship was new and beautiful, we like the promenade, but there was a lot of long waits for rock climbing, ice skating, etc. The wait staff was slow and the food was not to our liking. With CCL we love their food and the service has always been great and with a smile for us. Most staff will do what it takes to make it right for you. We like the Sprite class of ships too. The layout has an easy flow. We had cruised 5 Carnival ships before we cruised our first RCCL ship, on the Independence of the Seas. Right away, we were struck by the WOW factor that RCCL promises, and fell in love with the design of their ships, especially the Promenade. But the food just didn’t compare with Carnival’s. And finding a complimentary cool beverage was a tough find, if it wasn’t a meal. Their drink dispenser was behind a counter, and a staff member filled them cups of beverage and left them on counter only at mealtimes. Was a very bad point with us. Then we sailed the Oasis of the Seas. SUPER WOW! But their food was still not great. Plentiful, but lacking something. Next, we sailed the NCL Getaway, and fell in love—-with Freestyle Cruising, and all their complimentary and specialty food choices. Their MDR food on first cruise, I could have avoided, but by the second cruise on them, they had revamped their MDR menu totally, and it was fabulous! With all that said, my next two cruises are booked on the Carnival Breeze in 2019 and the Magic in 2020. I’m hoping to have the same great experience I had with Carnival all those years ago. When we sailed the Explorer of the Seas it was a few months old and we thought it would all be top notch, being it was their newest ship. RC would ensure food and service would match the newest of ship, but it didn't match our experience on CCL.
SCcruiser123 Posted April 23, 2018 #80 Share Posted April 23, 2018 8 on Carnival and 2 on RCL. I like Carnival for the price, the ports are close to my home and the general overall friendliness of staff and crew. I wish they would adopt some of the new perks and options (like free second guest, free restaurant visit, free drink package) that some of the other cruise lines are now offering. Just booked a 14 day cruise to the Panama Canal on Carnival for January 2019 and traveling with a group of friends. Can't wait for a long cruise with seven ports and six sea days! hott_michelle2001 Posted April 23, 2018 #81 Share Posted April 23, 2018 the more expensive cruises we plan abut a year ahead and make payments so its not as much all at once, and watch for those price drops! Otherwise it is usually about 4 months ahead or so and we just pay it all at once. We only go once a year so we have to make it count!
dmet0225 Posted April 23, 2018 #82 Share Posted April 23, 2018 Have my 7th Carnival cruise booked for June. First ever cruise was RCCL. Mostly choose based on price, as a cruise on RCCL from my home port of Galveston is generally 25% more expensive than Carnival for the same itinerary. Also, we now get more (and better) deals on Carnival due to wife spending a little too much time in the casino.
beshears Posted April 24, 2018 #83 Share Posted April 24, 2018 Oh my, I would have to go back over 25 years to fine out. :) I have cruised on Holland American, Norwegian, Princess and Royal Caribbean, but mostly Carnival. As someone mentioned, it generally is in my "budget", and the area I want to travel to.:)
carnivalgirl51 Posted April 24, 2018 #84 Share Posted April 24, 2018 21 out of 25 are with carnival and already booked on the Horizon for next year.
SNJCruisers Posted April 24, 2018 #85 Share Posted April 24, 2018 18 out of 31 on Carnival, but only 2 out of my last 11. Having done 16 out of my first 20 on Carnival, I was loyal, but decided to take the blinders off and see what else is out there. Included drinks packages on Celebrity, NCL and MSC made me stray. Have come back for two bookings on the Horizon because of the Havana area and the 10% off cards earned through AARP and Allstate.
Hose A De RR Posted April 24, 2018 #86 Share Posted April 24, 2018 21 on Carnival, 2 on NCL and 1 on RCCL. We have the Horizon TA booked and a B2B on the Vista early next year.
Rare sparks1093 Posted April 24, 2018 #87 Share Posted April 24, 2018 Hi everyone! So how many Carnival cruises have you taken? For those of you that stick with only Carnival what is that keeps you going back for more and more? Any tips on how to plan for future cruises so it doesn't hurt the pockets? Do you plan last minute or book when you are on a cruise... 4 on CCL, 4 with NCL (28 nights on CCL, 17 on NCL). When we are planning cruises we price out the cruise lines that meet our criteria of sailing date and itinerary and CCL has always been hundreds less than the others. beshears Posted April 24, 2018 #88 Share Posted April 24, 2018 Although I have cruised on Holland American, Norwegian, Princess and Royal Caribbean over the past 25 years, I have probably done more on Carnival these past few years, which is 8.:)

MMastell Posted April 24, 2018 #90 Share Posted April 24, 2018 15 of 61 on Carnival. The rest are on the majority of major and a couple minor cruise lines. Take care, Mike
Bombos Posted April 24, 2018 #91 Share Posted April 24, 2018 I have cruised 2 times already with Carnival. This July will be my 3rd, with a 4th cruise on deck in 2020. I have stuck with Carnival because of the price and convenience (living 45 min. away from port is nice).

Thoth Posted April 25, 2018 #93 Share Posted April 25, 2018 11 Carnival cruises . Why ? 1) cost. = Even as a single traveler the cruise is affordable. 2) "Fun Ships" = every Carnival cruise is a hoot. There is something to silly fun. 3) driving distance to New Orleans or Mobile 4) familiarity = few unpleasant surprises . I know what to expect. 5) young at heart fellow guest 6) activity excursions ...Jeep tours not just stodgy buses 7) water-slides 8) dancing waiters 9) warm weather destinations 10) creative Joe Farcus designs wakes me up. Cinders411 Posted April 25, 2018 #96 Share Posted April 25, 2018 Sailed six times with Carnival and then switched over to Royal for seven. We are now so close to Diamond on RCI with our upcoming cruises, we will probably continue with them. After that, we are considering trying NCL. Variety is the spice of life :p
