We’ll be sailing on The Harmony of the Sea - Fort Lauderdale . We need to get to Miami to broad Empress of the Sea to sail to Cuba. Getting off The Harmony and broad Empress is on the same day. Does anyone have any suggestions on transportation?

Our quick answer is Uber. The price is about $40 and you will have a private car taking you from one pier to the other with no delays for other stops (like you get with many shuttle services).

We use Jiffy Jeff or SAS. It’s about $15 per person and they will drive you right up to the pier and drop you off. Lots of good reviews here on Cruise Critic and on Trip Advisor.

Ditto on this, both are great.

Oh, if taking Uber would you know what the traveling time is?

Obviously, the travel time is simply a factor of the traffic. Unlike many shuttle services, Uber takes you from your pickup to your drop point with no deviations to pick up or drop other passengers sharing the shuttle. As to the actual time it can vary from about 50 min to over an hour. The most common route is to use Interstate 95, and if there is a problem on that major road then you will have delays. In a real bad situation the drivers will sometimes try alternative routes. Since Uber and Lyft give you a set price (in advance) there is an incentive for their drivers to get you to your destination as soon as possible. When Uber is stuck in traffic the driver is the loser since you do not pay based on time.

We do understand why some like shared shuttle services. But shared shuttles can often have to wait for that last passenger or couple and they usually will have multiple drop points. So if you would get a shuttle service from Port Everglades to the Port of Miami you might wait 15 min+ before departing for other passengers and then possibly have to pick-up more folks at a different pier. Once at the Port of Miami they might have passengers going to several different piers and you can again be stuck waiting as they make several stops (and unload luggage). When you use Uber or Lyft you have your own private car and the price is about the same as most of the shuttle services. Another advantage of using Uber or Lyft is that you can summon a car when you are ready...unlike most shuttles where they expect you (and others) to be at a pick-up point at a specific time.

Totally agree with Hank. We used UBER for our first time in FLL and MIA this past April and are sold on their services.

Speaking of Uber we also use them from our Ft Lauderdale hotel to the port. Even if we stay at a hotel with free shuttle service, those shuttles are a real hassle. You are normally with a large crowd, have to hang around while they load all the luggage, and they they cram you into a mini bus or van. Once at the port there is a good chance you will wait while they drop others off at different piers. Uber X is cheap from hotels to the port (usually less than $15) and since we have an AMEX Platinum we get $15 a month in included Uber Credits.

I might add that many cruisers love to stay at the Embassy Suites (on 17th) and I believe they actually charge for a shuttle.
