Yes, there are hooks on the back of the bathroom door, but we too take hook magnets for a multitude of uses.

Some people have reported that hooks will hold more weight when stuck to the ceiling, as the pull is straight down, and does not need friction to keep them from sliding down a wall.

We were on K'dam 1/4 - 1/13 in a balcony cabin on deck 5.  There were 2 nice hooks mounted on the wall next to the bed -- this wall also the bathroom wall, not the door to the bathroom.  There were 2 hooks on the inside of the bathroom door.   Plenty of shelves & drawers for us for 9 nts.

For us, sadly, our 2 favorite activities Trivia & Happy Hour were held at same time in different places.  T in Crows Nest at 4 and HH in Billboard at 4.  Very very little to do on this ship -- there is NO morning Trivia.  2 more Trivias held in evening hours while we were at dinner.  Never saw the Cruise Director til 1 day in the elevator!!

MDR is very pretty but WAY too small, so it is very crowded and extremely noisy.  Except for Radiance class Royal Caribbean ships, K'dam's dining room THE WORST in 55 cruises!  There is no sound-absorbing material on the ceilings, which are made of metal & painted white!!   It is awful!!

We enjoyed the NY Deli sandwiches (particularly pastrami & club double decker) and meat pizza alot.  But entire station needs to be rearranged.  The area for placing orders & pickup is laid out all wrong;  you stand in line (to place your order) right next to the kitchen door and the cabinet/shelf where all the dirty dishes are placed before going for washing!!

Does HAL offer "sharing" tables at dinner?  We are a couple but often we like to eat dinner with others.

Yes they do. If you prefer a fixed dining time, you can request a large table, which is usually 6 or 8 people, when you make your booking. You will have an assigned table and the same dinner companions every night. I like this, and have always been lucky to be seated with pleasant people.

If you're doing open seating, then you can request to be seated at a large table when you get to the dining room. That is not an ongoing commitment, it's just for that night. Although sometimes people hit it off and arrange to meet for dinner the next night.

We have previously sailed on HAL 3 times, but that was several years ago and on some of their "smaller" ships. Since then, we have sailed only on RCCL and Celebrity, which we have enjoyed, especially the Diamond Lounge cocktail hours, as we have access to those. We are now considering an 11 night cruise on the Koningsdam for next spring, as we like the itinerary. We have tried to do research on the ship, but it seems to offer some conflicting opinions. So, if some of you that have been on it could please answer some questions, it would be most appreciated.

We have just spent 42 days on the Kdam so I can answer a few of you questions

1. I have heard that there are very few public areas that offer views of the ocean. Is this true, as we enjoy a view.? (We will have a balcony, but do not want to spend the whole cruise on it). There are several areas inside on Deck 2 that offer ocean view as does the aft and center pool area, deck 10 mid ships and the crows nest on deck 12 and observation deck 14

2. There is a daily "happy hour" offered with reduced drinks. Is this true and if so, what time is it offered? Happy hour in the Bill Board on Board and Rock Room was from 4 to 5, at the aft pool from 3-4 and I think in the crows nest at 10pm

3. The balconies on the fore and aft of deck 4 are larger, but have steel railings rather than plexi-glass. Is this true?  Don't know - we had ocean view cabin

4. For "My Time Dining", or whatever it is called, there are very few tables for 2 available. Is this true?  There are many 2 tops and 4 tops - not too many larger tables

5. There is very little shaded area available near to the pools. And HAL offers more smoking areas than other cruise lines. Is this true?  There is some shaded areas by the mid and aft pools but not a lot and it is the areas with tables and chairs not loungers.  Smoking in only on the port side by the aft pool and in the Casino

This may seem somewhat "picky" but we enjoy certain things while on a cruise and we are just trying to see what we might get to experience. Any advice/information on these topics is welcome. Thank you.
