Casino ID for 19 yr old.

Recommended Posts

Just off Harmony this month, was told that it's a lot easier in the casino if my 18yo can bring ID showing his age (this was to get his free spin-to-win tokens).

The cashier told me that they have to get a security staffer to go to a different computer to get into the security system to check date of birth. The cash register systems that scan your SeaPass don't list your date of birth -- only the security system (like when you ding on and off the ship) lists that information. So while they COULD get his DOB from his SeaPass, it would be a lot simpler and faster for everyone for him to bring his driver license or passport card/book.

Makes sense from an identity theft point of view... you don't need every single bartender, waiter, store clerk, photographer, etc., having access to personal information like that.

(Unsure if this was because Harmony uses the RFID chip versus the swipe card technology -- never bothered to check on Freedom this year, and he hasn't been 18yo on any other cruises we've been on.)

I've never seen an adult who looks like a 14 year old. They may ask for ID, but only because of the fuzzy line that 17 or 18 could be, not 14

LOL. I'm 50 now but people still think I'm around 35 (I'm 6'2" 190 lbs, have all my hair with no gray and I'm very fit). Back when I turned 21 I had to carry 3 picture ID's just to get into bars because I looked 16. If I wasn't 6'2" I probably never would have gotten in. I can only imagine with women that look young because of height it would be very easy to look 14 when you're 20.

I would never assume anything about one cruiseline from experiences on another.

So Royal is different when it comes to ID in the casino?;) Yes, some things will be different but much will be pretty much the same.

Your seapass card does not have any personal info on it, where a person can just look at it. Any young adult knows that they will be asked for an ID, and should always have it when doing something that they might be asked. Late evenings, they have bouncers checking ID's at the club. I believe they had a swipe computer to look up seapass cards, but honestly, it shouldn't be a bid deal.

That's security looking up IDs from SeaPasses in the security computer system, which does have access to ages. You don't need any ID beyond your SeaPass to get into the nightclub, because it is already set up with a security officer and the necessary computer already.

My daughter will be 19 on our next cruise & wants to gamble in the casino.

I know she will be asked for ID, especially because she looks 14.

Does she need to carry her drivers license, or is her SeaPass card all she needs? (I don't know if a birthdate is something they see when they swipe SeaPass cards)

On our last cruise, you had to be 21 or older. I don't know if it was just that cruise, or standard policy. May want to check on age restrictions..

Currently on Jewel on the Greek Isles cruise. Drinking age is 18 . As a data point, my 18 and 20 year old kids have never been asked for any i.d. other than their sea pass all week. They have ordered drinks and played blackjack in the casino with no issues, although one casino employer tried telling my dd that the drinking age in the ship was 21. When we checked in for the cruise at the terminal, we had to wait for the kids' sea passes to be reprinted since the agent said they accidentally showed them as minors. YMMV.

You've got to be kidding! My daughters are 27 and 25 - they are both high school teachers and they are always mistaken for students, as the actual 10th and 11th graders look older than them.

They absolutely look 14 or 15, especially when they are not wearing makeup and have their hair in a ponytail or bun.
