We will be taking a Western Caribbean cruise on the Breeze in December that stops at Cozumel. Was wondering if we choose not to book an excursion is there much to do right at the Port? Are there any beaches right off the ship similar to the Port at Grand Turk? Thanks for any replies :)

Hi,

This is a big web site so you may not realize that each port has their own section. Here is the one for Cozumel:

There is no beach right at the port area. You don't need a tour to get to one but you do need a taxi which has set rates to various spots around the island.

San Francisco Beach is next to Paradise Beach - we like to go there. They will usually let us in free if we buy $20 worth of food/drinks each - which we always do. Our neighbors really liked Mr. Sancho's, so we may try that next time.

And I was just thinking there was a small beach area at the port, but I don't know if they had food or drinks. Seems like it was off to the left after you get down the dock.

There is a small beach area between the port area and downtown. However, it is a private beach for a large hotel complex. Signs say it was for hotel guests only.

Varying opinions from people as to their favorite beach and which is best.

There are

party beaches, all inclusive food and drinks sanchos

Beaches with a water park for kids Playa mia

Beaches that have a lot of rocks that you can't walk in chakanab

Beaches that are quiet, but without many amenities any on the south side $30 by red line taxi

Beaches that are free, palancar, the previously mentioned southside

All of these you can do on your own.

You would have to take a taxi to most anywhere, but if you go outside the port area and don't use the ones that are waiting where nearly everyone else goes, you can get a much better price.

It beats staying in your room and playing poker all day anytime
