LizO830 Posted August 17, 2018 #1 Share Posted August 17, 2018 We recently booked a Christmas cruise on the Koningsdam. Our travel agent gave us a 2nd dinner at the Pinnacle Grill and a dinner at Canaletto. On our past HAL cruises, we were disappointed in Canaletto and underwhelmed by the Pinnacle Grill. One of the reasons we booked the Koningsdam was for the additional specialty dining options. We have tried Tamarind & Sel de Mer (pop-up in the steakhouse) on previous sailings, and they were wonderful. Do you know if HAL allows you to transfer your free dinner credits to the other restaurants? We would love to dine at the Culinary Arts Center, Tamarind, and Sel de Mer on our upcoming holiday cruise.
Marianne Posted August 18, 2018 #2 Share Posted August 18, 2018 Go to the Front Desk and ask. I've had gifts changed to what I preferred. Give it a try. Marianne
mcrcruiser Posted August 18, 2018 #3 Share Posted August 18, 2018 We believe that the customer relations desk will accommodate your needs ;however ,be prepared to pay the extra charges that could exist with the changes .We know that Caneletto is only a$15 per pax cover charge . On our last HAL cruise on Ooosterdam Caneletto was fabulous for dinner . :p
LadyVol1 Posted August 18, 2018 #4 Share Posted August 18, 2018 I would ask your TA. Explain it just like you did in your post and offer to pay him/her the difference. It should be much easier than dealing with the Front Desk and HAL’s archaic accounting system.

It should be much easier than dealing with the Front Desk and HAL’s archaic accounting system. That is a very good recommendation . We did not think of that solution . We have taken notes for future reference should that issue arise for us :p
Wishing on a star Posted August 19, 2018 #6 Share Posted August 19, 2018 If it is okay to ask here, and piggyback on this thread. Can you experts tell me what the uncharges are for the Specialty Restaurants? We are hoping to be on the N. Statendam next year. We have a deposit with EXplore 4. So if we keep that, we will have one Pinnacle Grill. I am wondering of the pre-booked dining packages might be worth any savings. Tamarind seems to be highly recommended so that is def. on my list. Thanks!

Charges are on the HAL site (which can be a PITA to manoeuver now). Pinnacle Grill is $35 pp IIRC. Lunch there is $10 (need to book on board). Tamarind is $25 pp IIRC Sel de Mer pop up menu is $49 PP but on the Koningsdam it is a la carte and I would think that the N Statendam would be the same - so, it's pay depending on what you order. Canaletto is $15 PP. Hope this helps.
SeaBands Posted August 25, 2018 #8 Share Posted August 25, 2018 Sel de Mer is better as a stand alone restaurant rather than a pop up. We ate there many times on Kdam and did it as a pop up on Rotterdam. Was disappointed.
