Getaway Western Caribbean 9/9/2018

Forgot an initial point I thought might be of use. Mentioned earlier that I had 250 minutes of internet as a "perk". I upgraded it to "UNLIMITED STREAMING" for an additional $125 and used my OBC for the upgrade.

While not 100+ MBPS that I get at home, the internet speeds did indeed allow me to stream without buffering. And, posting was not an issue, either....even small video clips.

While it varied, the couple of times I checked with "speedtest", I was getting right around 5 MBPS download and 3 MBPS uploads.

Pretty darned good while at sea.

The only major deviation was the last day of the cruise when everyone was onboard and while sailing back, we were still pretty far from any land. Speeds dropped.

Overall, I was quite pleased with the Getaway's internet speed.

Thanks so much for your review. We go on the Getaway in Nov. and are staying in the Haven also. Reviews like yours help with the wait and countdown!

After reading your review I think we may do Margaritaville for lunch on the 1st day. Looks like you enjoyed yourself!

Ocean 678 (or, the heart of the ship on decks 678).....

O'Sheehans.....drinks and food 24/7...

One of the many things I enjoy on NCL over most other cruise lines is their openess to the outside areas. There are other cruise lines that try to divert you inward (looking at you RCCL). What's the point of cruising if that's the objective? You can find 100s of hotels that will give you that experience.

On the Getaway, you can get drinks, you can dine, there are places just to sit and read, or just watch the ship sail through the water.....

More O'Sheehans.....probably spent more time there than I should have. But, when some of the parties on board finished up, well after the Haven bar was closed, a nightcap and some wings always seemed to fit the bill....

Thanks for the review. I'll be in the Haven in two weeks and will definitely keep an eye out for Miraslov and Anoop. This will be my first time in the Haven and looking forward to it.

Both will be quite easy to find. You're going to love it!

More shots from cruising around the ship...self explanatory....

It used to be so very good. Now, it needs some management attention and quickly!

IIRC (correct me if I'm wrong), this was inside BLISS...

Casino.....lost $200 here the first night playing 3 card poker. They have a cash Texas Hold'em Game every night. Get there early because it is popular. Picked up $430 at Hold'em by the end of the week. So, felt pretty good about that.....

I believe the Getaway is 5 years old. I know the Breakaway was launched about the same time, too.

One thing I've always loved about NCL, they keep their ships impeccably clean and up-to-date. 5 years isn't a long time for a cruise ship, but given it's out to sea 52 weeks/year (or thereabouts), I didn't find anything broken, dirty, anything less than spotless. Impressive!

I just took a quick peak into the Box Office on the first full day of the cruise and saw what looked like Bingo......maybe!

What's interesting is the set on stage, which is the set for Million Dollar Quartet. I'll have more on that later on.

As a Platinum Latitudes member for the first time, NCL offered a behind the scenes tour as a "perk"....

Our tour guide (wish I could remember her name, as she was a delight)....

We weren't allowed to take pictures of some of the common areas for security reasons, but we did get to tour other areas which they let us snap away......

Laundry room, where they had these very large washers and driers. They even had some automatic towel and sheet folders. Could use that at home....

Crew gets 3 uniforms. They are laundered by the laundry staff on certain days. If you miss your day, you do your own laundry. Same is true of personal items.

Cold provision storage.....

Main kitchen for the MDRs and Room Service....

What's not known, is every restaurant outside of the MDRs have their own galley. In short, Haven has their own galley, Specialty Restaurants have their own galley, etc. They all prepare their own menus. Haven meals and room service is prepared in the Haven restaurant, for example.

An example of what MDR food has to look like when it leaves the MDR galley to be served....

Meals being prepared.....

Something I found interesting, the galley makes as much as they can from scratch. For example, salad dressing....all made from scratch every day in the galley.

Illusionarium...while not quite behind the scenes (wouldn't allow pictures back stage as it showed costumes and how they make them....I guess they don't want their ideas stolen), an empty set. More on the actual Cirque Show Steam late in the review....
