Back from the Dark Ages! Live Review of the Allure OTS

Recommended Posts

Enjoying following along, we finally sail on the 28th, after having this cruise booked for over a year.  I am so ready to go.  We also have bought the ultimate dining package, as well as the beverage package.  I noticed the dining package did mention lunches on sea days, though it seems a few places may still be open on port days also.

What were you able to do at Izumi?  As I thought that is one listed that it is not included in the dining package?  Though we aren't into Sushi, so if that is really all they have we aren't likely to go there.  But we would have liked to try the Hibachi place, though we won't pay extra for that one.

@mom2tcdx2 congratulations is in order, the year of waiting is finally up! If I had to wait a year for something, this would be it.

So I was able to do Izumi. They split Izumi into 2 sections: sushi side and teppanyaki side. The sushi side, each person can order up to $35 al a carte off the menu (sushi rolls are around $13/each and a poke bowl is 17). As the waiter told me there, the teppanyaki is included but only the $39 option (they have 2 options: $39 for 1 meat and $45 for 2 meats), the waiter also said you can choose the $45 option but you’d be charged $10. Disclaimer: on the Mariner in July, they told me to kick rocks so I was surprised that the waiter on the Allure said they allow it here. I’m guessing the Izumi manager from ship-to-ship can make the call? Not 100% sure.

I agree with you though, there are too many great options to pay for food if you have the ultimate dining package!

Following along - we board Allure in 46 days - this helps build the suspense for our first Oasis-class cruise! I see there's still inconsistent response throughout the fleet on the JR's-milkshake-being-included-in-the-deluxe-drink-package question. I've gotten to the point where I just say "I guess we'll find out for sure when we board" - but your experience makes me optimistic. 😋

So last night we finished the Love & Marriage game show, it ended up being 90 minutes but I was completely ok with that. It was extremely entertaining and highly recommend the show. They take a honeymoon couple, a mid-age couple, and the oldest couple and ask questions that bring a LOT of laughter.

This morning I’m waking up and will watch us pull into St Maarten in about an hour. The plan is to eat a late breakfast, then get off and try to take a water taxi to Maho Beach and experience the airplanes landing and taking off.

Also I figured I would share how the sunset looked last night, it took my breath away!

@ramja96 I’m glad I can help out! Some people absolutely will not sail Oasis class because the ship is too big for them, but I LOVE the Oasis class. There are 6000 people on board but the most people I’ve ever been around at once is in the Amber Theater for a show, Royal did a spectacular job of splitting up the ship neighborhoods.

The milkshakes at JR are so good! I’ll go later today and check again, and I’ll check tomorrow 😉

Send this to Royal or GoPro (if you took it with a GoPro, you can win awards)!! They love getting stuff like this, they posted one of my pics of the Anthem Solarium last year.

Wow! I’ll have to try that out. Do you still have the pic of the Anthem Solarium? I’d love to see it.

restaurant manager in Coastal Kitchen’s name is Bechir

Glad you mentioned this. We were on Allure the last week of Oct. 2 years ago and the CK manager was a very nice gentleman named Memis from Turkey. I didn't expect him to still be there but I wondered if he would be for our cruise in a couple of weeks.

Just got back from St Maarten, there’s still another hour until everyone has to be on board (4:30pm) but I have seen all I needed and had enough sun. I wanted to take a water taxi to Maho Beach but there aren’t any, maybe hurricane took that away or maybe they weren’t ever there? We took a land taxi and it was $16/person round trip. They put an arm band on you so they know to bring you back. The taxis run every 30 min back to the ship until 3pm.

They have a bar on either side of the beach that both serve music, food, drinks, and WiFi! WiFi is free with a purchase of anything. Today they had a lot of smaller turbine prop planes like DHC-6s. Then we were fortunate enough to see a JetBlue A320 and Air France A340. After that, the back of my neck was red (even though I was using sunblock) so we took the taxi back.

Side Note: The water was gorgeous today and really teal. Attached a pic of the water in the background of Blake and I. And of course I had to put up the pic of the A340 behind me!

150 Central Park for dinner tonight and maybe the casino some more to recoup the money we spent on the taxi to Maho beach 😄

@Espn don’t blame you, there’s always a chance. They are so good with names and faces, he would probably remember you. If you need any cruise compass or menus or anything, lemme know!

Thanks, I think I am good for now, just need that suite assignment.

Have you tried the messaging function on the new Royal app? I have read there are a few odd things with it like not letting you know you have a message. If you have tried it what is your opinion? Hoping it will be an alternative to texting, but it seems like it still needs work.

Cool A340 pic btw.

@Espn thank you! I honestly booked the cruise just for the St Maarten port. My profession is a pilot so today fulfilled all my dreams and goals LOL

The texting has not worked all cruise for me. I keep trying it about once a day. It keeps saying ‘Beta’ and tells me to connect to the ship WiFi to text. I don’t know how to tell it I’m already on the ships WiFi. I hope they can work the kinks out before your cruise!
