There is no where to tender at Icy Straight Point, it's impossible no other place to dock besides the big dock for the cruise ships........................one of the ship port times will be 6:30am until 3:00pm...other ship docks 3:30pm until 10pm. It will be light longer so don't let the port times get you down on the second ship port times.

Radiance docks first ....

We were there in May and did an whale watch trip with Glacier Wind.  Captain Shawn was telling us that for the 2019 Alaska season, there will in fact be more than one ship calling on Icy Straight at the same time, multiple times during the season.  The draft schedule reflects this.

Still don't know how they could do it with the dock they have there. It is very small, the water is very shallow when the tide goes out. From this picture you can see how shallow it is. From this picture it sure looks like it is waiting for the 1 ship to leave before the next ship comes in to dock.  Tendering there would be bad too because of the tides situation. People would have to wait on the shore for the tides to come back in before a tender boat could get close enough to  pick them up.

We did both on our cruise this past August and I would definitely choose Skagway. We got pretty bored in ISP. In Skagway, we rented a car and drove into Yukon, and didn't spend hardly any time in actual Skagway. But my husband and I could've literally drove for days looking at the scenery. If scenery isn't your thing, choose ISP. If you're going to Alaska to see beautiful views, then go to Skagway. It was by far our favorite port.

We were in ISP several times before the new dock was built, and have also been there since the installation of the dock.  The tender dock wasn't near the new dock at all, but was near the red buildings (i.e., the restaurant and the crab stop).  Neither my husband nor I remember of the floating dock is still at that tender dock location.  Does anyone else have a better memory or paid more attention?
