trout96 Posted December 30, 2018 #1 Share Posted December 30, 2018 I am planning on doing Santorini, Mykonos and Chania on DIY what are the must things to see or do?? Am I making a mistake doing it on my own?
caviargal Posted December 30, 2018 #2 Share Posted December 30, 2018 We are doing the Greek Islands in April and booked private tours in Athens and Rhodes. The others we will explore DIY, using public transport and taxis, as well as walking.
Rare mskaufman Posted December 31, 2018 #3 Share Posted December 31, 2018 Mykonos is a very straight forward DIY. Just wandering around the windmills, Little Venice and the white buildings can use a good part of the day.
CruiserBruce Posted December 31, 2018 #4 Share Posted December 31, 2018 If you look down the board every one of your ports is covered in detail. All can be DIY-ed with a little research.
Rare Hlitner Posted December 31, 2018 #5 Share Posted December 31, 2018 On Mykonos we usually enjoy going to one of their nice beaches (perhaps Paradise or even Super Paradise) which can be done on the local buses or with a taxi. Santorini offers quite a few options, but just keep in mind that its a tender port and getting ashore (and up to Fira) can involve significant delays. The cable car from the tender area up to Fira can only move about 600 persons (one-way) per hour. As to what to do for a first visit on Santorini we would suggest going to Oia (by local bus or taxi) for at least a couple of hours (walking around is nice, the views are great, and the town is more quaint then the much busier Fira). Also enjoy the many shops and some cafes/restaurants in Oia and Fira. For those with a major interest in ruins, going to Akritori has its merit...especially for folks who have been to Knossos and/or museum on Crete. Santorini also has a few decent beaches, but most first time day visitors do not go to this island for the beaches. Our favorite beach (on this island) is Red Beach....which is not very convenient for cruisers unless they have a rental car. Santorini also has a few wineries that might interest a wine lover. cruiselovin'girl Posted January 14, 2019 #7 Share Posted January 14, 2019 Would this be walkable from the port or would we need a taxi? Thank in Advance! Pam

Pam It depends where you dock. Princess ran a shuttle bus (something like $7) from the dock to this area. It is walkable but not really a sidewalk. Depending on the number of ships in port you might be tendered, in which case you will be dropped off in the tourist area,
