Rare hllwdcruiser Posted February 22, 2019 #1 Share Posted February 22, 2019 I don't know if this has already been asked and answered, but if they are eliminating the cruise cards, how do you keep the lights on in the Royal Class ships? Are the lights connected to the medallion technology so if you are in your cabin they automatically work?
dweidensaul Posted February 22, 2019 #2 Share Posted February 22, 2019 While I can't say if the Medallion will be tied to lights, I can say that on Regal last week they simply provided a dummy card already in the existing slot (only Medallions were issued to passengers). Unsure how this may be incorporated for Sky Princess and beyond.

They keep a card in the slot all time.
Rare Host CJSKIDS Posted February 22, 2019 #5 Share Posted February 22, 2019 As others have said, they now give a dummy card. My only issue with this system is our last cabin steward pulled it out every time he cleaned the cabin. We never left lights, however this would make it that the things we left charging would not charge. I do wish that they would have another system

Go figure as far as saving power. Edited February 22, 2019 by floridalover5623
LidoCanuck Posted March 2, 2019 #7 Share Posted March 2, 2019 I hate to be a stickler fr safety but these days you can never be too careful. Is there a way to disable the proximity medallion so that your cabin door does not open as you approach? I am imagining some scenario where a creep follows you down your corridor and then is able to enter your cabin because it unlocked automatically. I do wish that they would have another system When we were on the Royal, the card only controlled the lights, not any of the electrical plugs we used for charging. (Once in a Chinese hotel, the removal of the card caused all electricity in the cabin to be turned off, even to the in-room fridge.)

I was on Caribbean Princess two weeks ago; it was the first ship for Ocean Medallion. As you approach the cabin your medallion will activate the door and unlock it; but it does not open the door. You will have to push the handle down to open; so for security if you think someone is following you; you have a couple options. First you can keep walking past your cabin; the medallion will start to activate, but stops if you are not close to cabin door or if you are just walking by. Second, like I mentioned the door will be activated; but you can not open until you actually push lever down. Third option would be to leave your medallion in the cabin and use your cruise card; or keep your medallion in a purse or pants pocket. The door will not activate if medallion is in purse. I had it in my jeans pocket and walked up to cabin. Door would not activate until I pulled medallion out of my pocket. Hope this helps

AF-1 Posted March 2, 2019 #14 Share Posted March 2, 2019 Hmm. Did not notice anything different from first day to the last. But it does have a battery so that may have been an issue you experienced.

The sensors for getting on & off the ship, charging drinks, shops, casino all remained the same. I believe they use a different signal so it wouldn't be affected.
