Look at the Lido Cabanas on the Eurodam. Even if they are empty, you can't sit down to eat your Dive-In burger just for a few minutes. They are not as expensive as the "Retreat Cabanas" on the upper deck, but pretty close.
UPNYGuy Posted March 14, 2019 #27 Share Posted March 14, 2019 EasyCruise tried this, and failed miserably. This was owned by the parent company that owns the ulcc EasyJet, and they tried to implement several tactics used in the ultra low fare air sector. The only thing that was included was the cabin. You paid for food, cabin service, everything else.
AtlantaCruiser72 Posted March 14, 2019 #28 Share Posted March 14, 2019 Instead of the non-existent Senior discount they should institute a "Senior Citizen Surcharge" - for each year over 65 you are assessed a $1/day surcharge, so for someone who is 85 they would pay $20 per day extra above the base fare. Grand Voyages would have a double surcharge due to the "special nature: of those sailings. HAL would be printing money!

Rare terrydtx Posted March 14, 2019 #30 Share Posted March 14, 2019 How about a babysitting fee for Club HAL? Might keep so many kids off HAL in the summer and Spring Break.

simplyrubies Posted March 14, 2019 #32 Share Posted March 14, 2019 Do you want to get off at a port? That'll be a $20 pp charge please. Is it a very desirable port that you booked your entire vacation around? Let's slide that number up to $45 pp! 😉

Rare terrydtx Posted March 14, 2019 #36 Share Posted March 14, 2019 I can see some HAL bean counter reading this fun thread and taking it to upper management saying "see look how many people are willing to pay upcharges for what we do not charge for now" We may have just ruined cruising on HAL, 😫

ivanidea Posted March 15, 2019 #41 Share Posted March 15, 2019 (edited) This thread is sounding like, if Ryan Air ran a cruise company... Cruise for only £10* *Per person, per day, plus other fees they know they can get away with.... Just like that song from Les Mis. (Master of the House). 😄 Edited March 15, 2019 by ivanidea Adding song reference.

I remember seeing something like a $3.50 daily charge for reserving deck chairs. This was in one of HALs brochures from the late 70s.
