i was playing at a slot when a slot attendant sat at the machine next to me and went into the setup screen.

i noticed that machine was set to 85% return. (15% casino profit!)

this happened again at a different slot game  at the opposite end of the casino.

the 2nd machine was also set to 85% return. 😞

i think 85% is the lowest setting most major slot manufactures have for modern games.

to put it in perspective, roulette numbers have a 95% return (5% casino profit).

The casino advantage on games like blackjack and craps is under 2%. So yeah...enjoy those slot machines.

I doubt the accuracy / truthfulness or this post.

That’s a pretty strong thing to say; how about justifying it.

or is it just the kind of news you don’t want to hear?

85% is "fair" only if you were playing the penny slots.  Here's the statistics in Las Vegas by denomination.

1¢ Slot Machines
The Strip – 88.38%
Downtown – 89.15%
Boulder Strip – 90.38%
N. Las Vegas – 90.88%

5¢ Slot Machines
The Strip – 91.64%
Downtown – 93.40%
Boulder Strip – 96.21%
N. Las Vegas – 95.29%

25¢ Slot Machines
The Strip – 89.35%
Downtown – 94.25%
Boulder Strip – 96.13%
N. Las Vegas – 96.41%

$1 Slot Machines
The Strip – 92.43%
Downtown – 94.63%
Boulder Strip – 96.13%
N. Las Vegas – 95.39%

I don't question 85%  That sounds about right on a cruise ship considering there's no governing authority for casinos at sea..

I just never knew this was info a slot attendant or guest looking at a slot screen could see...

Actually CLIA regulates cruise line casinos. They follow the rules of the Nevada gaming association.  I think the problem with Clia is there is no enforcement mechanism but they do inspections, etc.
