Fresh off the Carnival Liberty

Recommended Posts

Just got off of the Liberty. I didn't take a ton of pictures, but I'll be leaving a small review shortly. I'll answer questions if I can! 😀

This was my 11th Carnival cruise, my second time on the Liberty. I can safely say I am not a fan of this ship. I had a great cruise anyway, because any day in the sea is better than a day on land.

I am curious too. We just got off the Liberty on the 4/11 and had a good cruise. I think this was our 4th time sailing her.  I like the layout of this ship and staff are so friendly they even remembered us from our previous cruise. I cant say to much about the dining room since we ended up eating 3 out of the 4 nights in the steakhouse.  The only thing I didn't care for was that our sea day was the first day and not last. This ship has a lot of the amenities we look for when booking.

I'll be doing my second sailing on the Liberty. Can't say I had many problems with her the first time. Punchliner was extremely packed though. Everyone told me the Dream class was more spacious, and I found it to be the opposite. Liberty has more gross tonnage per person than Dream class too.

This review will be my opinion, and maybe only mine lol you are more than welcome to disagree 😀

Let’s start with the ship. I don’t love the decor whatsoever. I think the atrium is pretty, but that’s about it. It doesn’t make or break a cruise for me,  but it’s just a note. A lot of it is starting to look really run down. There are a few places that aren’t used anymore, and I think it would look a lot better if the space was utilized in another way, instead of just being closed down. It kind of gives it an abandoned town look.

Then cabin hallways generally smelled pretty bad. I know this can easily be an issue, but I’ve noticed it more on this ship.

A lot of the doors to public restrooms are getting very hard to open.

We tried to see a show a couple of times and didn’t get to. We got their 15 minutes early, and it was already standing room only.

Service on this ship doesn’t seem to compare to other ships, and I felt this last year as well. It’s not the worst, and there are definitely some good staff on it, but overall I haven’t found it to be like other ships.

I only saw my room steward one time, he stopped in to have us fill out when wanted our room to be taken care of.

The casino bar was the slowest I’ve ever seen. It was almost impossible to get a drink sometimes. (Including the staff that serves you while playing)

Our dining room waiter, Victor was phenomenal. He was very attentive and paid attention to every detail.

We ate in the dining room twice for breakfast. The first day the service was horrible. He missed a lot of what we ordered. He did the same for the table next to us. He ended up having to tell them that the kitchen was closed and that they could get any additional food they wanted to up on the lido deck.  It went much better the next day.

The steakhouse service was decent. We do love the manager, Nikolina. We’ve had her before and she remembered us, that’s always a nice feeling.

Curious to read your review. I have 26 cruises on Carnival on 10 different ships, and Liberty is one of my favorite ships. I have been on every class of ship except Splendor,  and Dream, Spirit and Conquest are my favorite ship classes.

I do like this class as well. I’ve been on the Glory a few times and have loved it every time.

I thought they way over-used the decorative, black wrought-iron thing.
- the second photo...

That just doesn't belong on a ship, somehow.

These photos taken early April 2015 -maybe it's been changed since then?

This thread shows how different people’s taste can be. I think Liberty is one of the nicest Carnival ships. I like all the black iron and lights that are constantly changing colors. But I am also a big fan of Farkus, which I know doesn’t apply to everyone. Personally I think the design of Breeze, Vista and Horizon are boring. Magic was the last Carnival ship that has a design with personality in my book.

Somehow I suspect all is/was? not well on Liberty,

and may not have been for some time now.

We had a boarding experience in late March 2015

when Liberty was docked at San Juan, P.Rico

-about to start her very first tour of duty on Carnival's Southern Caribbean route

This was Liberty's first such South-bound trip

and as such there were many Barbados residents (like myself)

who take advantage of this Southern Caribbean route being allowed to board

either at P.Rico or at Barbados where we live.

When all the Barbados island-people presented themselves to check-in

at the Old San Juan terminal, Liberty's booking system was a complete balls-up!

They were not expecting any Barbados ppl doing just the half-cruise

from P.Rico to Barbados -and no further.

Luckily I walk with enough documentation to hold up in the Supreme Court!

We spent a good 20 mins. at check-in, just for us to get processed

-with cards being hastily printed in the back office! The poor kid was so flustered..
They were NOT ready for us -at all -nor were they ready for all the other

30 or 40 Barbados-bound cabins we later discovered from other islanders!

OK so we got that sorted, we got on board, got to our cabins,

dumped our carry-ons etc.

For some reason we then went to see the Maitre D' at our MDR
to discover that, even in the on-board computer system, there were foul-ups!

We got our dining arrangement straightened out,

and were given a dining reservation card (which I have kept -see below).

At the MDR station, they thought we were in Cabin 6255.

I had to correct them - we were actually in 2279.

You can see where the correction was made. So glad I kept this card!

Lido food-

Guys burgers were okay as always. line is generally pretty crazy, but saw a few times it actually wasn’t too bad. Usually do a plain Jane and put the toppings on myself.

Pizza was good-never really seemed to have enough made, but no big deal.  Funghi and Quattro formaggi are my favorites.

Deli-we love the new sandwiches, particularly the buffalo chicken. It does take a bit of time, but nothing crazy. Between us we tried the tuna, ham and cheese, tomato mozzarella, meatball and beef jerky.

Buffet-didn’t eat too much off of it, but generally looked pretty low when we walked by.

None of us did sushi or bbq.

Seafood shack- I’ve been wanting to try this for a few cruises now and never got around to it. To be honest, I wish I would have skipped it. It took 45 minutes to get which I thought was a bit much. All I ordered was a lobster roll and some raw oysters that the boys wanted to try. They said the oysters were good, they had never had them and I refuse to try them lol. The lobster roll was the worst I’ve ever had. I’m from New England, so I know my expectations may be slightly higher than normal, but it was just not good. There was SO much mayonnaise that’s all you could taste, and it definitely wasn’t a good mayo either. It was also on this thick brioche bread which was pretty bizarre to me.
