Celebrity Solstice - 7 Nt RT Seattle - June 28 to July 5, 2019

 

Seattle

Ketchikan - DIY walking tour

Endicott Arm (scenic cruising) - Catamaran glacier excursion through Celebrity/Allen Marine

Juneau - DIY rental car/self tour

Skagway - Chilkoot Charters Train/Bus Excursion

Victoria - Butchard Gardens excursion through Celebrity

Seattle

 

with 1 night pre-cruise in Seattle and 4 nights post-cruise west of Seattle with family.

 

Traveling with a group of 8 adults ranging from 40-65ish in age.

Alaska Trip Report:  August 2nd - 9th, 2019

Ship:  Celebrity Millennium
Itinerary:

  • NYC (driving in the night before our flight out of JFK)
  • Vancouver (flying in 2 days before embarkation)
  • Inside Passage (cruising)
  • Ketchikan (Lumberjack Show with Axe Throwing, exploring on our own)
  • Icy Strait Point (Glacier Bay Flightseeing Booked through Celebrity)
  • Juneau (Helicopter Glacier Landing booked independently, exploring on our own)
  • Skagway (Kroschel Wildlife Refuge booked through Celebrity)
  • Hubbard Glacier (cruising, behind the scenes ship tour)
  • Seward (meeting friends here on disembarkation day, spending a few days exploring and seeing Exit Glacier)
  • Anchorage (one overnight to pick up rental car)
  • Denali (spending a few days here river rafting and exploring the park)
  • Fairbanks (Chena Hot Springs, fly home)

Cruise with DH, land tour where we meet two of my girlfriends, all of us are in our late twenties (28-29) and from Upstate NY. First time to Alaska for all of us, and first cruise for DH and me.

Getting this started a little early- wanted to give back on all the planning, packing, etc. 

 

This is a one week southbound cruise Whittier to Vancouver with 4 days DIY in Seward prior to embarkation.

Day 1-3 Travel to Anchorage, sites around the city and the Mayors Marathon
Day 3-6 Travel to Seward, Kenai Fjord cruise, Kenai Fjord visit, Harding Icefield hike and travel back to Anchorage
Day 7 Connect with Princess Land Tour group and travel to Denali
Day 8 Bus ride to Eielson Visitor Center
Day 9 Bus to Talkeenta
Day 10 Train to Whittier for cruising
Day 11 Hubbard Glacier
Day 12 Glacier Bay
Day 13 Skagway Upper Dewey, Devils Punchbowl, Lower Dewey
Day 14 Juneau Mendenhall Glacier DIY
Day 15 Ketchikan Deer Mountain hike
Day 16 at sea
Day 17 Vancouver and home

Two separate cruise lines with three separate itineraries:

 

Holland America Nieuw Amsterdam (Vancouver to Vancouver)

Royal Princess (Vancouver to Whittier to Vancouver)

Alaska Trip Report:  August 25th - September 1st, 2019

Ship:  Norwegian Bliss
Itinerary:  

  • Seattle (Pike Place Excursion, and Norwegian Embarkation)
  • Sea Day
  • Juneau (Tour booked independently with Juneau Tours and Whale Watch - included whale watching, Mendenhall Glacier, and Tracy's Crab Shack)
  • Skagway (Tour booked independently with Frontier Excursions - included Full Day Yukon Tour and Dog Sledding Ride)
  • Glacier Bay (Cruising)
  • Ketchikan (Tour booked independently with Alaska Shore Tours -  Included bus tour of Ketchikan)
  • Victoria, British Columbia (Stayed on the ship)

Travelling with DH, both of us are in our early 30's and usually pretty active... however I was 20 weeks pregnant on this cruise.  This is our 6th cruise but 1st to Alaska.  We've been on Carnival Legend, Carnival Vista, Royal Caribbean Allure of the Seas, Norwegian Getaway, Norwegian Escape, and now Norwegian Bliss.

Not sure why this report wasn't added to the trip report list. Perhaps because it's land only?  But there are lots of great photos and other info that travelers may find useful.

Here is my very delayed trip summary from 5 days DIY land pre-cruise followed by a Southbound cruise on the Royal Princess with kids.

 

Cruise itinerary was:

-Whittier 

-Hubbard Glacier (scenic cruising)

-Glacier Bay National Park (scenic cruising)

-Skagway

-Juneau

-Ketchikan

-sea day

-Vancouver
