Diamond and Platinum event

On my two most recent QM2 cruises the Diamond and Platinum party has been moved from 7.45pm to 11.15am.  On the first occasion it clashed with the key note speaker so I missed it completely.  It also clashed with a lecture I was interested in on the second occasion.  Does anyone know why they have moved this event from a good time on the evening to a bad time in the morning?  It makes me feel that they are saying that they have my loyalty and are not that bothered with me anymore.  I am sure it is not because of customer demand as no one I know thinks it is a good idea.  I guess that they are using it as a money saving device.  After all if no one turns up they don’t need to supply drinks and then they will be able to cancel it completely.

Hi,

I have wondered the same thing. On a recent crossing, the event was held in the late morning. I went to the event and it was fairly well attended considering the time. On a crossing, it seems like there are plenty of evenings when this event could be held.

We had the Grills welcome aboard party at 11.15 on Saturday, but our cruise is a complicated mix of bits of other cruises and crossings, so it must have been difficult to fit in. I think it’s a great time, and much enjoyed it - and the subsequent afternoon nap. 😀

Hello

It is my view that a late morning event is not going to attract the same number of passengers as a pre-dinner event for a variety of reasons.  Given this, Cunard certainly saves considerable money on alcohol etc.  I for one do note attend this late morning affair because I do not drink during the day and I have other things I would rather be doing.

We attended the evening Diamond & Platinum party shortly after we became Platinum and we have not  attending another.   There are now so many people in this group that it is not all that special.   Unless you happen to be one of the early people in line, the tables are all full and it becomes a room full of wall to wall people standing, holding a drink (assuming you can find a waiter).   Having to stand for a couple of hours is not my idea of fun.

Having a late morning party with fewer people should make the party more enjoyable for those attending.

Perhaps it might be better if they were to split the group into separate Diamond and Platinum parties.

We always make jokes that these events are the "free drink" parties.  We go and have a free drink and find out who gets honored for sailing with Cunard for some huge amount of days.  But I must admit that I get a charge out of hearing the statistics on the countries of origin of the PAX.  And sometimes we meet up with some fun people and actually have a good time!  OMG!  But moving the parties to early in the day?  We won't go as we don't like to drink so early, so why go for our free drink when we are still in a coffee mood?

Good morning Shipshape.

May I just say that i was a little confused by your thread title.

Are you referring to the 'World Club Party' or the 'Senior Officers Party'?

In all my time with Cunard, often in excess of 11 weeks in a 12 month calendar year 👿, the World Club has always been an evening affair.

On maybe two occasions, on Queen Mary 2  Trans Atlantic crossings, the Senior Officers Party has been held around lunch time.

I do agree with 'Cruiseluvva' above...."Sorry to buck the trend, but I actually rather like the pre-lunch cocktail party" though I'm not sure I'd appreciate them  if they became the 'norm'.

I do however have a degree of sympathy with you regarding your point on clashes with key-note speakers just as I would if the said 'Party' clashed with the lunchtime Jazz Session  in the Golden Lion.  I'm sure my 'socialising nature' would win the day and I'd allocate time later to catch up on the missed speaker via Cunard's iPlayer. 🙄

On my last crossing the "Senior Officers Party" was held at 11:15 am at the same time their 'premiere' speaker was speaking in the RCT. Obviously that was of more interest to me than the Senior Officers, which in the past was on a formal night and fun to attend. In my passenger survey at the conclusion I said, "who ever thought at 11:15 am was an appropriate time for a party, should be discharged."

A few days ago the senior officers party on the QE was held in the Queen's Room at 11:00 a.m. On that cruise there were 95 Diamond members and I forget the number of Platinum, but it was close to 200. It appeared every one of them was there. There was no problem finding a table and I must say there was a generous offering of drinks and hot and cold snacks.

The dress code for this late-morning event was "smart attire (jackets optional)" but it wasn't as shabby as I expected. Many men wore jackets and ties. There were a few men in dinner jackets and many women dressed as for a formal dinner.

The first time we attended one of these receptions at the pre-lunch hour I wasn't sure I liked the time, but now I have no preference.

I am kind of a party person, so any time is good for me. The downside of the 11:15 party is that you do miss speakers you may want to see, on the positive side we use our Verandah lunch voucher after the morning party which works out well, and it gives us another night of pre dinner drinks with friends in the Commodore Club. As long as there is bubbly, I will be there :)
