Disturbing noise on Pacific Dawn ?

Recommended Posts

Hi all,I have just paid a huge deposit of $1pp for a obstructed on Pacific Dawn.

Can someone who has been on this deck please tell me if there is much noise from below from the bars ?

Would be first time P and O any tips would be appreciated as some of the reviews are not crash hot.

Can cancel with no worries losing nothing, just wish Princess had some Brisbane departures later in the year than they do.

Cheers Carole

Can't help with the cabin noise as I haven't been on the Dawn but I have on its sister ship the jewel and never had any issues with noise (last cabin was next to the casino). You are more likely to be disturbed by kids running down the hall than ambient noise.

We sail yearly on P&O and like it as it offers a good product for the price.  They key is managing expectations - it is a 3 star line so expect that.  It doesn't have free ice cream or hamburgers but you won't stave with the food offered for free.  The decor is much nicer than Carnival and the entertainment is similar.

The service is friendly and while the ships are older they are very clean.  We have always had a fantastic time - sometimes we don't like the food (well since the last menu change we haven't been impressed) but we worked out that we could buy the steak each night if we wanted too and still come home with significant change from a princess fare.

I have never been on a single cruise where drunk bogans have been prevalent- it is just average middle income holiday makers having a good time.

No particular tips if you are a regular cruiser - P&O is very upfront with all costs - so anything that is extra will be indicated as such.

If there is anything in particular you want to know just sing out and I will do my best to help.

The only noise (from crew and passengers) I have heard on most ships is when directly above the theatre or below the pool deck. I avoid the cabins below the pool deck but am not too worried about the theatre as any noise would be finished by 11pm.

Noise on the Pacific Dawn? Probably all those has been semi retired rock stars, supplementing their aged pension with a few gigs on the ships.   Barnsey, Farnham, Pee Wee, Sandy Scott, Little Patty etc, turn it down guys.🤣

We were on the last cruise of ye olde Regal Princess before rebirth as Pacific Dawn in 2007, LA to Sydney.  Regal was nice and quiet, no ageing rock stars, just the string quartet and Uncle Les doing his karaoke gig.🤤

As a fellow Qlder, I understand how difficult it is find decent cruises that leave from Brisbane.

But I completely agree with Sweetp. I've sailed with P&O twice this year already, once Dawn and once Aria, and will continue to sail with them when the price is right. I completely shop on price when sailing P&O though - get a cheap deal and I'm off.

I've never been on a cruise that I didn't like, but agree that you need to set your expectations at the right level with P&O, it's more good motel than resort! Accommodation is comfortable, room stewards are good, you can always find something to eat, but it's not like the food on Celebrity or Princess. There are plenty of activities, or plenty of quiet spaces to get away from everyone else, whichever you prefer. I find on cruises that you run into the same people all the time, because you're like-minded, and I never seem to encounter drunken fools, unless I'm also one 🤣.

Here's hoping that October 2020 brings some good news for all long suffering Qlders.

I been on Dawn twice. Once in a Window and once in a Balcony. I would go again if the price was right, but the price would have to be very right. The cabins are just this side of shabby and the structure of the ship looks more like salvage than a cruise ship. However, the indoor public areas are quite well done. The food is basic, very basic. In fact it would probably not be difficult to lose weight on a Dawn cruise, because there is no real reason to eat the food.

Still, my theory is that no matter how you are at sea, you are already ahead of the game.

Thanks all for your points of view, a open mind is what is required by the sounds of things, I suppose thousands of people return to p&o .

Not much on offer from Brisbane but got 3 lined up now between Feb 20 and March 21.

P&O UK has had a nasty brawl in the Buffet over someone wearing a clown outfit on a formal night. Unbelievable really, they were attacking each other with plates.

I believe it occurred at 2am... 🤡 🥂 🍸 🍺. My dad always said that nothing good ever happens at that time of night (day).

Agreed, nothing good ever happens after midnight.

Would not have happened on a HAL ship, lights out @ 9.30pm. 🤣  I kept tripping over the parked scooters and Zimmer Frames parked in the corridors on Noordam, had to buy a torch for when I walked backed from the night club, which was crowded, me and the DJ. 😂

Goodness, dancing in your chair perhaps.

Bu they took the tub chairs out of the cabins on Princess, so I had to buy a mini suite on Majestic, like thee as they have a sofa.  No matter Arcadia has sofas as well.

Dance like there is no one watching, you will be fine, whether you are seated or not.
