Pgoldie Posted August 18, 2019 #1 Share Posted August 18, 2019 Heading onto Ruby Princess soon. Does the Princess@Sea service work well on cell phones or should I bring walkie-talkies?
Rare OzKiwiJJ Posted August 18, 2019 #2 Share Posted August 18, 2019 Pincess@Sea doesn't work on walkie talkies, and walkie talkies don't work well on ships (too much steel) plus they annoy the heck out of other passengers, Princess@Sea has a messaging function but you don't get notifications if you have a message, you just have to keep checking. However we find it useful. 2
AF-1 Posted August 18, 2019 #3 Share Posted August 18, 2019 Pgoldie, what are you trying to accomplish or who are you trying to keep in touch with? My suggestion and it works fine is to bring sticky note pads. You stick them outside of door to leave messages and you have those in your group do the same. You can use the Princess messaging app; but like ZsKiwiJJ mentioned; you have to keep checking to see if someone sent a msg; it does not notify you.
denmarks Posted August 18, 2019 #4 Share Posted August 18, 2019 No one likes walkie-talkies. They disturb everyone. The messaging function at Princess@Sea uses the web browser and not an app. I do not believe there is a way for the browser to send notifications which makes it pretty useless unless you constantly check it. The new Medallion Class, once available, should work much better. The sticky note idea sounds good but is probably not must better than Princess@Sea since you must constantly check.

Since you mentioned that your cruise is "soon" and on the Ruby Princess, I'm guessing that you are cruising to Alaska. You'll have a terrific experience. Since you are new to Cruise Critic, it might be helpful for you to know that there is a forum dedicated to questions about or reports on Princess. You might check it out to learn more about other Cruise Critic participants' experiences on various Princess ships: https://boards.cruisecritic.com/forum/119-princess-cruises/ Another Cruise Critic resource is the Roll Call. These are forums for people on specific cruises to get together and chat about things like their port plans on their itinerary. Here is the link for the Ruby Princess Roll Calls: https://boards.cruisecritic.com/forum/374-ruby-princess-roll-calls/ You may have to dredge around there, a bit, to find the Roll Call for your specific cruise. Bon Voyage.

Colo Cruiser Posted August 20, 2019 #8 Share Posted August 20, 2019 Walkie Talkies work great in the larger public areas. IE the DR and the Princess theater.

satxdiver Posted August 20, 2019 #10 Share Posted August 20, 2019 The Ruby Princess will become Princess MedallionClass on January 27, 2020. When is the OP sailing on the Ruby?
