MarkBearSF Posted September 23, 2019 #1 Share Posted September 23, 2019 I know that tipping is always a contentions subject, but I've not seen this topic addressed before. What is a reasonable tip for a wheelchair attendant who assists passengers through airports and ship boarding in the UK?We'll need assistance at LHR for our arrival and at Southampton when boarding the QM2. (When we disembark in NY, the staff is local and I know how to handle that one)
clarky213 Posted September 23, 2019 #2 Share Posted September 23, 2019 No Need to tip, they are just doing their Job and are paid above our minimum wage.
amajaa Posted September 27, 2019 #3 Share Posted September 27, 2019 Interestingly someone asked this same question elsewhere and the answer seemed to be that in Southampton it is normally retired people that are doing it for a bit of extra money, so most people do tip. kerryincork Posted September 27, 2019 #4 Share Posted September 27, 2019 (edited) No need to tip. They are doing their job which they are paid to do. Even if they are retired they still get paid. Edited September 27, 2019 by kerryincork
Rare MMDown Under Posted October 15, 2019 #5 Share Posted October 15, 2019 I would never have thought to tip a wheelchair assistant. I now get wheelchair assistance at all foreign airports. When I arrived back in Australia, the first time I used assistance, I told the assistant I didn't need assistance in Australia. His response, with a bit smile," was "Hop on luv, that is what we get paid for".
Heidi13 Posted October 15, 2019 #6 Share Posted October 15, 2019 My dad requests assistance at LHR when changing terminals and all the staff expect is a thank you, as they leave for the next gate. No hand held out expecting money.
