Any aussies cruised on hal's volendam.

Hi fellow aussie cruisers. Probably not the right board to ask however just want to know any aussies cruisers opinions of the volendam. Booked on her for next june cruising the inside passage of alaska from vancouver. Opinions on the ship or any tips would be great.

Wife and I did a Sydney/Singapore cruise on Volendam a few years ago and found it excellent. Layout  seemed like a carbon copy of Celebrity Century. Nice size, actually a little small compared to the ships getting about these days. Its size can allow it into or closer to places than the bigger ships.  Excellent crew, service and entertainment. As it was coming off a season in Australia there were Aussie chefs and a couple of excellent Aussie entertainers; flautist Jane Rutter, Mario d'Andrea and ex-pat Aussie guitarist now living and playing in Las Vegas.

It's getting on in years now. It had one mishap on day at sea near Indonesia when one of its generators failed. The ship was shut down for a couple of hours while it was repaired. During that time the only two places that had power were the bridge (emergency power of course) and the casino!! Otherwise we couldn't fault it.

I'd have no hesitation on cruising on her again but it's been a long time since I've looked at any reviews.

BTW HAL is my second favourite line after Celebrity. Have booked a cruise from Vancouver Jun14, 2020 on Westerdam.

I really enjoyed our cruise on the Maasdam, which is slightly smaller, the good thing with HAL ships is the cabin sizes are mostly bigger than Princess ships.

Not an Aussie, but Volendam was our first cruise ship, flew to Vancouver from Auckland for an Alaskan cruise, really enjoyed the cruise, have now sailed on Volendam several times, including Trans Pacific cruises and Australian Circumnavigation. would be happy to sail on the Volendam again.
