Liquor collection lacking

Currently on the Nieuw Statendam.  Many people have not had their liquor collected when coming back on to the ship. We are in the Caribbean, and liquor prices are very good. Change in policy, or crew just not paying attention ?

With all the cutbacks, perhaps some of the crew are just plain tired because there isn't enough of them to check the bags.

Checking liquor at the gangway is the responsibility of both security and beverage departments. The security guard monitoring the X-ray machine and/or the individual known as the belt "feeder" need to flag liquor bottle(s) as it/they proceed on the belt through the machine, and then notify the beverage attendant positioned at the table down the line for the find and actual confiscation which is done by the latter. The guard's primary responsibility however, remains paying attention to any items that may possess a hazard/danger, and not to bottles of alcohol. Being screened inside the terminal, as opposed to on the ship at the gangway, is done by contract/private security however, should work the same way.

 

It's not a perfect process especially when it gets busy down there when the focus turns to processing/screening returning pax as efficient as possible and preventing a "cattle drive"-type of backlog. There are, believe it or not, passengers who voluntarily walk over to the "liquor table" to turn in their purchased alcohol. Imagine that concept!

We have also seen in the Caribbean where some times they collected the alcohol bought ashore and other times there was no one duty.

Last time we were in Caribbean, early in the cruise,  they collected.  But later, it was-  ‘the bins are full’ and they waved us on. I think it’s very selective and yes we were trying to turn it in.
