Ronsangel Posted December 9, 2019 #1 Share Posted December 9, 2019 I am planning to take a small USB powered fan on board for air flow and white noise. Am I best to pack it in my luggage or carry-on? Anyone had trouble doing this in the past?
Clarea Posted December 9, 2019 #2 Share Posted December 9, 2019 You should be OK with a USB powered fan. I'd have it in a carry-on bag so as not to have your regular bag end up at security.
mayleeman Posted December 10, 2019 #3 Share Posted December 10, 2019 I have carried a 6" electric fan in my regular luggage on our 2 cruises this year, plus a USB fan on our last one in case the electric one made some x-ray person unhappy. Had no problems, but putting it in your carry on might be smart.
april_4_us Posted December 10, 2019 #4 Share Posted December 10, 2019 You can also just request a box fan frim your room steward. April
TotallySophia Posted December 10, 2019 #5 Share Posted December 10, 2019 We have been bringing a 6" Vornado Flippi plug-in fan with us for the past few years. We keep it in its box and pack it in our suitcase. We've never had issues getting it onboard.
horric29 Posted December 11, 2019 #6 Share Posted December 11, 2019 Had my 6" fan confiscated last cruise... I would say carry on you will be fine. I was able to get it back waiting in the god awful line beside I-95 but, I had to give them a reason for wanting a fan. Silliness.
dsvd79 Posted December 11, 2019 #7 Share Posted December 11, 2019 I use a battery operated fan, and have had no problems. https://www.amazon.com/O2COOL-Portable-Battery-Powered-Unit/dp/B001B16VT6/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?keywords=battery+operated+fan&qid=1576034330&sr=8-1-spons&psc=1&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUExSVFLWjdYOFNERVNKJmVuY3J5cHRlZElkPUEwMzc2MTcwTTRLU0dSUUZSOVVTJmVuY3J5cHRlZEFkSWQ9QTA0OTA1ODMyTFFTMU5MSjVFWExBJndpZGdldE5hbWU9c3BfYXRmJmFjdGlvbj1jbGlja1JlZGlyZWN0JmRvTm90TG9nQ2xpY2s9dHJ1ZQ==

Like at least 8 hours? does two D batteries last for a 7 day cruise? The answer was”no” to both questions re the fan I’m ready to toss. I’m hoping your answer is a resounding yes!!

After 7 days the fan was working fine, not as great as the 1st night but good enough. I always bring back up batteries just in case. I've used this fan for the past 5 years and only on my longer 12 or 11 night cruises I replaced the batteries.

Since the thermostat on the wall is apparently a placebo, we always pack a small electric fan in our checked bag. We pack it in the original box and have never had an issue with the "naughty" room police.

MarieLill Posted December 13, 2019 #14 Share Posted December 13, 2019 I have the O2COOL fan also and usually have no problem. Once in Galveston, my luggage was sent to the "naughty" room and the security officer said no way was that fan going to my cabin even after I showed him a list of the prohibited items which does not include a fan! Rare brillohead Posted December 13, 2019 #15 Share Posted December 13, 2019 I've never had a problem with my little desk fan (standard wall plug, not USB). I was on seven cruises this year on two different lines (six RCI, one MSC) and nobody batted an eye. It's very similar to this one. I like not having to worry about how long the batteries will last, since it plugs into the wall. I use a wall "block" that has two USB ports plus a regular wall-type outlet, so I can plug the fan into the wall-type outlet, plus charge two phones / headphones / Kindles / battery packs / whatever, all at the same time while using just one of the supplied outlets -- no extension cords or power strips needed. Floridadude Posted December 15, 2019 #16 Share Posted December 15, 2019 I just returned yesterday from my Symphony cruise. I took my electric 13 inch desk fan. Made my sleeping perfect, as I need the white noise and air movement to sleep. Here are the 2 responses from my inquiries to RCL prior to my cruise.
