Australia/New Zealand cruise- Currency?

We use the local $'s when we visit other countries. When down  under, use the currency of the country you are visiting. Taxi drivers, and other, are very happy to take USD$ on a 1:1 exchange.😁

Some businesses in New Zealand will accept AUD (as you said), maybe because there are so many Aussie tourists and cruiseships going to NZ. I have come across several shops that have a sign in the window saying that they accept AUD. This is in the ports that cruise ships go to often.

 

However, I don't think the reverse would apply. I don't think NZ currency would be accepted in Australia. I suggest that the reason is the relative size of the two countries and their economies, not that Aussies don't like New Zealanders!
