Ovation overnight in Hawaii

 Share

Recommended Posts

We are on the Ovation of the Seas in early May for a cruise around Hawaii then up to Vancouver. We board in Honolulu, and spend the first day and half docked in port, Ship dosen't depart till next day. Never have done this before. Are any of the bars or restaurants open that day and half? Where does one eat and drink before they sail the next day? Anything open that day and half, or do we check in board drop off bags and exit the ship again for the rest of the day? Thanks for any help from experienced Hawaii cruisers

The ship is fully operating while you sit in port.  Many people use the day to visit Oahu.  So, breakfast times, dinner times and lunch times are just like any other day on the ship.  We did the cruise in the opposite direction way back in 2001 on the Radiance, lovely experience, we spent the last two days at the dock in Oahu.  On the Transpacific sailing last April we spent the last two days at the dock on the Ovation.

It's like a port day. The ship may have free shuttles set up to the mall nearby.

Aloha!  hopefully you're arriving in Oahu a few days earlier...so much to see.

Yes, you can board and leave the ship if you wish.

Yes, there will be free shuttles to Hilo Hattie and Walmart.

Local buses are nearby and cheap...$1 for senior citizens.

Visit the Hawaii thread for more information.

Must see: Pearl Harbor and Waikiki Beach.

Suggestion: Rent a car and drive around Oahu, counter-clockwise...and make many stops...Waikiki Beach, Hanauma Bay, Blow Hole, Waimanalo Beach, Kailua and Lanikai Beaches.....all the way up to the North Shore...then to the Dole Plantation, NaPali Lookout, then back to Honolulu...just to name a few.  Note: I rode the local bus "around" the island many times as a child, but won't suggest this because you'll never make it back to the ship on time. 😊 Aloha! and Happy Sailing!

Why counter clockwise?  Have done it half dozen times the opposite way.  Lunch on the north shore, afternoon lunch on the NE side, a little climb up to the lighthouse on the SE side, and back to Oahu for dinner.

True, but I rarely visit the shops and never visit the casino.

I only was referring to the food, which the OP questioned.  I was on the flowrider a good portion of the time on the Ovation while sitting near the Aloha tower.
