On RCI, and most restaurants, the corkage fee has nothing to do with opening the bottle.  It has to do with compensating for the loss in revenue when you bring, instead of buy, your wine.

 

So, it is charged, even if you open the bottle and bring it.

Just sailed the RC Symphony and we did bring our own opened bottle which and there was NO fee at all.

I get charged about 90% of the time on Cunard. I recognize the economics and the rationale so I'm not surprised or bothered by it.

I can count the number of times in my life that we've drank a bottle of wine at dinner on one hand (and I can drink a lot). I generally don't like a lot with my meal. My bottle never leaves my room. The most I'll do is take a few sips in the room, top off, and bring a glass dinner.

15+ cruises on Royal and have been or seen anyone charged a corkage fee.  You can also leave your opened wine bottle on the table and the waiter will store it and it will be waiting for you the next night.

One good idea is bring a wine saver... so you can save the wine for the next night.....

 

Always keep wine in our room and in the fridge if needed..... Also wine glasses always available from room steward.

Azamara charges corkage if you open the bottle in the dining rooms.    You're free to bring and drink your wine for free in your own room.   They'll even provide glasses and a cork screw.
