Shuttle services from port of Miami to MIA

Hi all, we are booked on to a MCS cruise in March and are wondering whether the port/cruise lines offer shuttle services  to MIA after disembarking?

We are looking to book a hire car for the second week of our trip and assumed that MIA is possibly the easiest pick up/drop off location for us (esp. as we fly out of MIA on the last day).

Anyone able to advise?

Amion68;  do you want to rent a car or do you want a car service to take you to airport?

Car rental -  research suggests the rental pick up/drop off options from MIA are the cheapest.  I am certainly open to suggestions however 🙂

The cruise port is located at the south end of south beach which is where the clubs, restaurants are located. I know you can rent a car at the airport; not sure about cruise port.  Ask your question on the east coast florida board.  Good luck

As to shuttle services from the POM to MIA, yes, you can arrange that through the cruise lines on a multi-passenger bus at an over inflated rate that will wait to depart until all seats are filled.  Or you can take a cab or, IMO, better yet use Uber or Lyft for a lower rate and faster, personalized service.  We have used Uber between MIA / POM, FLL / POM,  MIA / Port Everglades, FLL / Port Everglades and found it to be the best method.  You can also reserve Uber from the ports to the airports in advance.  (Airports to ports with normal service request).

As to car rentals, there are some available in the South Beach area, to which you can cab / Uber, or rent from MIA, which will have greater selection and likely better rates. We have done this as well with a MIA pick up and, in our case, FLL drop off.

We have done it a few times (renting a car after a cruise).  It is usually easiest to get a shuttle to the rental car center at MIA.  Some of the agencies actually provide a free shuttle (Alamo did this for us) while others charge a small fee.   You could also just grab a taxi (they have a fixed price to MIA) to the airport and rental car center.  It is also possible to get your car at some closer Miami/Miami Beach locations (we recently used a Miami Sixt location).   You need to shop around for the best deals and might need to call the office to check on shuttle options.

National, Alamo, Thrifty and Enterprise offer shuttle service between POM and their MIA airport car rental location - show the driver a print out of your reservation to board the shuttle.  If you get a better deal from someone else at MIA an UberX from POM to MIA is under $20 or a taxi is $28+tip.

Is Alamo still running a shuttle? I can choose Port of Miami as pickup point but no cars available. When i try to book through one of the large consolidators  (like Rentalcars) they only show me Dollar / Thrifty as option with Port of Miami as pickup point. Anyboody who disembarked lately and used the shuttles?

Unless something has changed recently all 4 are still offering shuttles to their MIA airport location. Hertz and Avis have small, downtown locations close to the port and usually offer shuttles or you can Uber for about $10

Alamo, National, Enterprise, Dollar, and Thrifty provide free shuttle service from the Port Of Miami to the Miami International Airport Rental Car Center which is located directly across from the Miami International Airport. When you exit the terminal flag down the shuttle. Most drivers will ask to see your rental car reservation before they allow you to board the shuttle. The short ride from the Port Of Miami to the Rental Car Center takes approximately fifteen minutes.
