Diamond Princess - how long until you would sail?

I would take the very first cruise offered.  Can all but guarantee the ship will have never been so clean, hell probably even cleaner than its maiden voyage.  The PR disaster that would ensue if someone got sick from sailing onboard would be devastating, they will likely take extraordinary measures to ensure that doesn’t happen.

We were booked for 2 rooms for the 8 day Japan cruise on 7/19/2020. We cancelled and booked a Northbound AK. Cruise on 7/15. We just don't feel comfortable being on the ship or in Asia right now. I travel to Japan annually for work and. I have postponed my latest trip.

We're booked in May and very much looking forward to it.  We are obviously mindful of possible cancellation by Princess and will tour Japan by land if the cruise is cancelled.  Hopefully it doesn't come to that.

I have no concerns about sailing on this ship any more than any other.  It will need specialist cleaning but not to the extent some are suggesting here!

The good thing for Princess is that people have very short memories and this will be forgotten in no time.  Like when the 787 aircraft was having issues a few years ago with battery fires and people were saying they would never fly on one.  Many of them will have done since!

Everything should be fine by the Olympics. Unless this is a very hardy strain, the increased sunlight will kill it off. Viruses thrive in the wintertime because there's not enough sun to contain them. By August, there will have been plenty of sunlight to kill them.

I bailed out of Asia this summer opting for Copenhagen to NYC TA in September instead. Saved a Diamond Princess December 2020 cruise until I have another FCD next month. Will return to Japan / Korea / China. Have had a few other Asia sites and not interested in repeating them

We are due 29-days Vancouver to Singapore, via Alaska and Japan, in late August on the final voyage of the Golden. I see no reason to begin cancel procedure yet. I figure by then the virus will have run it's course, or there will be effective intervention, or things will be such that going will not even be an option. I shall wait to see if things develop.

We have the 'cancel any reason' insurance plan, so if we have to cancel, anything not reversed will got to 'future cruise credit'.

That theory was already debunked by the news reporting the fact Hong Kong weather is 90 degrees and the virus is not contained.

Is self insuring code for not buying insurance? We don't usually buy insurance but I may add it for our Japan trip next year once we are positive we are going.

Yes, I don't buy trip insurance. I do buy an annual Medjet policy for medical evacuation because that can run in the $100,000 range in far away places. It's inexpensive for a couple at about $400 a year. My medical covers me outside of the US so I don't need medical insurance to travel.  I can stand to loose a suitcase or trip for the amount of money I save on insurance since we cruise 3-4 times a year.

Not sure how the temperature is related to the number of hours of sunlight. The temperature doesn't kill the viruses, it's the UV light.
