Any experience switching cruises?

I'm booked for a HAL cruise but see a price drop on a longer (and more expensive) cruise that departs within a day of our booked cruise.  This is in April.

 

Any experience being able to jump ships w/no loss of $$$?

 

In this case, the cruise we want to jump on is more expensive and longer than the cruise we are currently booked...so thinking that's a gain for HAL?

We once had to move a Caribbean cruise due to illness. Were able to move monies as long as it was within the final cancellation period. Anything outside the final window was a no go .

I don't know if this helps, but we had to cancel a cruise for personal reasons. HAL took the deposit already paid on that cruise and credited toward a second cruise we already had booked. I was not expecting that, so I would say call and ask!

We were told the magic words are asking for a change in ship and sailing date. Don't call it cancelling/rebook.

We have done it once, and it wasn't an issue. I don't remember if it was after final payment or not, probably not.
