Recent FCD purchases for someone not on board?

Has anyone recently been able to purchase an FCD for someone who is not on board? I am looking at a cruise for 2020 (not yet released) and would like to have a friend purchase FCDs for us.

 

Any recent experience with this?

Seems to be hit or miss.  It used to be you could.  Then you couldn’t.  Now there are reports that you can.  At this point I think it would be silly of them to refuse revenue.

I am looking at the 'Future Cruise Deposit Request Form' that I brought back from Koningsdam in January.  This is the new form that shows the reduced OBC amounts (only a fixed amount and not related to the category of cabin).  The form states "Only guests currently onboard may purchase open Future Cruise Deposits".

If I understand your post correctly....

YOU could actually CALL HAL yourself since the cruise is not published yet.  We have done that before when we knew a certain cruise was going to come up.  You end up putting a couple hundred down and they assign you part of a booking number.  Am a little surprised that you say a cruise for 2020 has not been published yet...I would think they would be firm in place.  Best of luck to you and give HAL a call to see about posting funds for a Future Dam Cruise.  I do NOT think someone else could buy you certificates on board.

We wanted to book a cruise and travel with my sister and brother in law. They did not have an FCD. We were able to buy them one prior to booking on board. Just needed their CC number and mariner numbers

Ditto on Zuiderdam last month.

This was  a year ago, but I could purchase FCDs on-board for immediate family members when I was making a future cruise booking for ourselves plus them in a separate cabin.
