Cabin Upgrades

Someone here mentioned they had just received an upgrade on their HAL cruise.  I'm hoping for some kind of upgrade but then aren't we all.   My question is how are you notified?  Email, phone call or some other way.   Just curious.

I booked directly through HAL, inside stateroom.  I received the upsell offer via e-mail 9 days before my departure date.  It will give you a band of potential upgrade classes and the price.  You can check open rooms via the website as if you were booking from scratch.  That's how I was able to determine a Verandah Spa stateroom was still open and I snapped that up right away.  Granted there were a half dozen open given the cancellations, but it was a huge upgrade nonetheless.

Oh for those curious I did select my stateroom on my original booking and not just book a guarantee.  Have no idea how that plays into when and how I got the offer.  Hope it helps!

Thanks.  The only time we've ever been offered an upgrade was an upsell.  Unfortunately I was gone and my husband didn't want to make the decision on his own.  I could have killed the man because it was an upgrade to a Neptune suite.  It's probably too early to know if we will get any type of upgrade but one can hope.  I didn't book through HAL and I booked a vista suite guarantee.    Probably the most I can hope for is a good location but who knows.

You need to reach out who you booked through.  As others have stated the TA usually don't reach out back about it.  Since I booked directly I got that e-mail right to my inbox so that's how I could react on it so fast.  Make sure they're vigilant on any offers - I'm sure they wouldn't mind the extra revenue either.

So just had my first up-sell offer (sort of) today......

Booked Oceanview Guarantee on Zaandam 4/21....HAL email forwarded to me by TA.....I can sign up for Club Orange for $25 per person/per day ($550 total)....and I called (short hold) and I would be upgraded to Oceanview C (highest OCV category).

Of course I said no thank you (seriously, I can't find much in CO to be worth anything) and asked about balcony/suite up-sells and he said those are usually out 30 days prior to sailing.

Will Caronovirus cancellations finally give me a shot at the suit life?.....stay tuned.

Smooth sailing...............

I'm not going to mention what line but yesterday I called my PCC and asked what the cost would be to go from an inside cabin to a verandah on our upcoming cruise in case we were quarantined for 2 weeks on the ship. She told me to give it a few more days to maybe receive an upgrade and lo and behold at 9PM last night we were upgraded to a Deluxe Verandah cabin.

Why not mention the line?  I see you are cruising on Princess.  Many on Princess are getting complimentary upgrades due to the high volume cancellations.  ENJOY!

Congrats! This is a very nice upgrade.  Do you mind sharing when this sailing is? Is it in March?

March 29th. Someone guessed Princess and they are correct. There is a good possibility that the cruise will be cancelled. The Caribbean Princess did not sail today due to a shortage of baggage handlers at the Princess pier in Port Everglades. From what I understand Princess hires a private firm for their baggage and supply services. They do not use Port Everglades personnel which I find a little strange. There is also a possibility that we could cruise out of another port in Florida.

They use a private company, three 'greeters' of whom tested positive for COVID in the last 48 hours.

Can anyone share the upsell offers they have received as well as The length of their cruise and when it departs. Curious if upsell offers are better since many have and are canceling.

Hi LK:

I rec'd an upsell offer on Feb27 for our 28-day So.Pacific cruise, departing 21 March. From an Observation Deck Inside to a Verandah (I chose a verandah on the same deck even though they have the real shallow balcony). At the time, the posted fare for that cabin was $2500pp MORE than our current fare; we were offered the change for $650pp.

The offer was rec'd just in the standard time before sailing and before the poo-poo hit the fan, so I am not sure if COVID19 cancellations had anything to do with our offer.

Unfortunately, I had to cancel our upgraded balcony cruise for family reasons.

In case you haven't heard Princess is suspending sailings for the next 60 days starting March 12.  The Regal is a beautiful ship and I hope you get a redo!

We are sailing on the Veendam on April 1st and had booked an ocean view cabin with a casino rate. Yesterday I received an upgrade/upsell offer and we took the offer for a Neptune Suite at $499 per person. There were just two left. Lanai was $99pp and Vista Suite was $199pp. We just had a Vista Suite on the Veendam in February and were glad to be able to secure a Neptune (6th one on 10  HAL cruises).

Our roll call for April 1st only has a few people and when I checked it yesterday, two had cancelled over the coronavirus.

Our roll call is very small too. As of yesterday one family had cancelled.  I think there will be others. I know in the grand scheme of things being able to go on your cruise  isn’t earth shaking. But it makes me incredible sad when I think of all the disappointment many are experiencing right now.
